InactiveCooper is still taking 3 naps/day. I have been trying now for about 3 weeks to get him down to 2/day without success. I thought he was ready as his a.m nap got really short and then his middle of the day and afternoon naps were pretty good. So I have been successful at getting his a.m. nap pushed from 8-8:30 until about 9 most days (he is up again by10:30 at the latest, usually 10), but he still like clock work wants to take a nap around 12:30pm everyday and then he is up around 2 or 2:30 and then I have to fight him to get him down again around 4-4:30 b/c he can’t make it from 2:30p until bedtime which is 8pm. Anybody got any suggestions. He is averaging about 3hrs worth of naps/day and we are still up mutiple times/night to calm back down. More now that he has learned how to stand up in the crib (did that 3 times last night)…. uugh I just want to get some sleep. TIA.

InactiveCould you just put him to bed earlier than 8? Or would that mean he would wake earlier in the morning?
I’m kind of in the same boat with Alana..trying to go from two to one…but she’s not joining the party on that one! She still wants two 40 minute naps a day.September 21, 2007 at 3:09 pm #43059Anonymous
InactiveWow, that’s great that he is so regular with his naps. Caden is SO unpredictable with his sleep.
I wonder too about the earlier bedtime? Could he be held off until bedtime if it was 7:00pm? Or would that still be too much?Caden still takes 2 naps per day, but they vary as to the times. Usually it’s in the same ballpark timeframe, but no clockwork naps here 🙁Have a great weekend!September 21, 2007 at 11:12 pm #43084Anonymous
Inactivewhat time does he wake up in the morning? if its like 7…i would try for 9:30 to lye him down. if its earlier then 7 ..then i understand that would be too late. maybe you can feed him lunch before his 12:30 nap. i think thats what i did.. i would push it off and make sure i fed him first.. and then put him down around 1ish. soo it turned into two naps: 9:30 and 1:00 … and then eventually 10:00 and 1:30.. which was nice. but when it was 1:00.. he would wake by 2ish.. 2:30ish and i would have to put him down by 7ish every night. soo maybe if you put him down earlier.. he might not wake earlier? and then be more rested and able to hold off until 9:30?
haha .. i am rambling on and on here.. sooo tired! well hope this helps.. it just some how transitions on its own even if you dont try! thats kinda what happened with us anyways! but once you get to the two naps a day … your day gets easier..and more time to do things outside the home! 😉

InactiveWell he normally wakes up b/t 6 and 6:30 today it was 5:30 ugh… and for the last 3 days (today will be 4), I have been successful at 2 naps/day. This a.m however I put him down at ~8:45 and he was up by 9:15 which wasn’t good and I just put him down probably 25 mins ago for his 2nd nap. I have noticed that he naps better later in the day than in the a.m. which isn’t good for me as I can’t nap later in the day or I can’t sleep at night, oh well. I have a hard time getting him in bed by 8, more me than him and when dh doesn’t get home from work somedays until 6:30 putting him down at 7 would be almost impossible. And we still don’t have the 3 meals and snack thing down either which complicates things. I am working really hard, thanks for the suggestions.

InactiveI remember having this problem with Claire. She was my sleeper… not Ben! The biggest difference came when I was able to schedule the meals to regular meal times.. then, the naps just fell into place. Getting her into bed early at night was essential too.
I know what you mean about scheduling around dh getting home. I usually end up feeding Ben before we eat dinner as a family, and sometimes, I have to bathe and put him to bed before I get to eat myself. It stinks, but I know if he isn’t in bed before 8, he doesn’t sleep nearly as well that night, and will actually get up earlier in the morning.Oh, and I don’t think I even tried to go down to two naps with Claire until she was about 8 months old. She just wasn’t ready yet. She would get up about 6:30 and nap at about 8, 12 and 4. Her 4 p.m. nap was really short and then we would try to have her in bed by 7:30.Bensmama2007-09-22 13:54:39

InactiveI just went back to look at Sarah’s baby book and at 6 months I wrote that she was taking 2-3 naps per day. My next entry was at 9 months and she was only taking 2. It sounds like he might be ready in the next month or so to go down to 2 naps. I agree with everyone else…try an earlier bedtime and see what happens. Good luck! Being sleep deprived is NO FUN!

InactiveWell, Lauren pretty much described Landen’s nap routine (well, we “try” anyway)
He’s a pretty bad napper, often times waking several times during a nap still… BUT, that being said, he wakes b/t 7-7:30am, goes down for a nap around 9:30 and sleeps (ha!) til 10:30 (sometimes 11). we eat lunch at 12:30 and then I put both of my kids down at 1 (sooo nice!) and hope for the best. Landen will usually take a 1.5-2 hr nap. One day, he went for 2.5 hrs. It depends! Then he’s usually tired for bed at 7-7:30pm.He still wakes at 12pm-1am and again usually around 4am, although last night, he didn’t wake for the 4am feed…and I THINK it’s b/c he loved mama’s homemade babyfood apples & cereal! (pigged out for dinner last night!)
so I hope this is a new trend!Good luck! One things is for sure…they do eventually sleep. One day!
My firstborn was an atrocious sleeper and takes 1/3hr nap each day and sleeps 10-12 hrs at night each night. He loooves to sleep!jilly782007-09-24 10:17:34
