InactiveWhen do we start weaning Ariella from Prevacid? It took me forever to talk her specialist to prescribing the Prevacid and now he wants to keep her on it until she’s 1. Go figure.

InactiveI wouldn’t try to wean until 9 months is all is going well. And do it very slowly. Try taking away 1 dose (afternoon dose if she’s on 3 a day).

InactiveYes, I would try in a few weeks by doing what Tracy recommended. Remind me…is Ariella on 3 doses per day? I agree to take out the afternoon dose first if so. We started taking away the morning dose last week and I wish now we had started with the “middle” dose.
Don’t be discouraged if she is not yet ready to wean at 9 months. You can always try again at 12, 15, 18 months or whatever you feel comfortable with.
Do you think she is ready to be off or are you just asking b/c of what the doctor said?
GOOD LUCK!

InactiveAriella’s currently on two doses. AM dose is the bigger than the PM.

InactiveMaybe you could start by lowering her am dose to match her pm dose (or even lower depending on the difference) at first and see how that goes?

InactiveAmy, I think she’s ready but I don’t want to go cold turkey so I’ll decrease the AM dose. Thank you for the suggestion.

InactiveI would agree with Natalia… my Ped and Ped Gastro recommended my daughter Amelia be weaned off of Prevacid at 4 months… it was WAY too soon, but the point is that she started all over again with her reflux and it was worse this time around. I think it would be worth keeping her on the meds for a year just to be on the safe side. My little one went through some rough days as a result of weaning too soon.

InactiveHi everyone-
Anna was diagnosed at 5 weeks with silent reflux (if you ask me she wasn’t so silent!!!). She was placed on prevacid solutabs 15mg/day (1/2 in afternoon and 1/2 in evening). We found relief after about 3-4 weeks on it. She turned into a happy little joy! We had even stopped waiting 30 minutes before a feeding and it worked just fine. At 3.5 months we decided to cut back the evening dose. Three weeks later we watched our happy baby turn miserable all over again. This time not as much screaming but showing all of the other signs plus really cranky and clingy. One week back on the 2x / day dose and she is still not her old baby self but I think there is improvement. I’m going to go for 3 times per day until it’s back under control but I know it could take a few more weeks. I’m not doing this again until she’s 1!
