When to take Zantac

When is the best time to give my DS his Zantac – before, after or maybe during the meal?

I used to give aidan’s a little bit before his meals. I wouldn’t give it to him during his meals though, if it’s the pepermint kind it tastes kind of nasty, sometimes (and you should ask your doc or do a search on here for this) it helps to mix it with a bit of mylanta when you give it to them. Zantac has alcohol in it and, although it works on the acid in their tummy’s, it can hurt their throat going down (sometimes). I used to mix it with 1 ml of Mylanta cherry supreme.

I give Alana hers before her bottle. Have just started Alana on effervesent zantac tablets. They dissolve in water- i put it in the teat and she drinks it like a trooper. It has a salty lemony flavour. We changed because of the alcohol content of the syrup- it is quite high and with the dosages needed they are getting a wee bit much alcohol- no driving. Don’t know if you can get them in US.

I have on occassion given it during, after, between (usually if i forget or am out and didn’t take it ). I have found it easier to give and more effective prior to meal. Also if they spew, and the zantac is given first maybe there is more of a chance they keep some of the zantac down!
