InactiveI was just wondering how in the world you “time” feedings with a newborn ( ok a month old ) ? He sleeps so crazy, that I never know when he will wake up or when he will sleep. More often than not he is awake. I have been giving the prevacid right before a meal, and I feel stupid for not waiting, as I think I remember having to do that w/ DS# 1…
Do you all wake them up if they are sleeping? Or do you just wait it out, even if you know they are starving?

Inactivewell i would do it 1.5 hr – 2 hr’s after the first feeding in the morning. say it was at 5:30 am. than i would give the meds around 7ish.. later the better.. and than feed 30 min. after.. sometimes i would do 20 min. after if he was really screaming.. and it didnt make too much of a difference.

InactiveSometimes with a newborn or littly you just need to do what you need to do…if that means that it is 10, 15 or 40 mintues then you have to go with that. Don’t stress yourself out all over again worrying about both the reflux and the meds. You are supposed to be resting when your bub is sleeping

Try sneaking the meds in while he is asleep…I think Christine had some succes with this. If he uses a dummy stick it in right after and see if he will stay asleep. Just an idea….
Remember that the 30 minutes is the optimum for the meds…the way you will get the most benefit from them. So aim for it by all means and Laurens suggestion sounds like a good one. But if it doesn’t always work, know that you are not necessarily harming your baby, you are likely to get some benefit from them just not the optimum(controversial I know…but honestly we have been doing it this way for about 3 months and it is going OK).
I get really scared when I say this…because I do agree with you all on the 30 min rule…please don’t think I am advocating otherwise
. Just that sometimes life gets in the way and you have to adapt as best you can.February 21, 2007 at 9:05 pm #25512Anonymous
InactiveYes, I used to sneak into Myles’ room about 1/2 hour before I knew he usually woke up and give him his Prevacid. He’d suck it right down and then I’d give him a nuk and he’d go back to sleep. I’d go get him 30 minutes later and feed him. He was much older (5 mos) when he started Prevacid, but it may work for Caden as well.

InactiveWell, I am pretty sure Cooper wouldn’t go back to sleep, but that is very clever if your baby will go unfazed by it!
Therese, you are right sometimes waiting 30 MORE minutes while the baby is ALREADY beside themselves is just too much. However, tonight was the first night we waited it out, and you know what? He seemed MUCH calmer after eating. Still kinda scrunched up and would whimper, but not the all out screaming and arching. Very hopeful! I feel so bad for not giving him the meds properly, but I hope we are on our way.
