InactiveGreat stories everyone – I love to hear how these kiddos get their names.
With our first son, I knew that I wanted my grandfather’s name as a
middle name. My grandpa and I were very close and he was in the
ICU (very, very ill from a stroke and bleeding on the brain) when I was
very newly pregnant – nobody even knew. I told him that night
that I was pregnant with his first great grandchild and that he needed
to keep fighting so he could meet the little one in April.
Unfortunately he passed away in November – Apparently he did remember
me telling him because when I finally told the rest of the family, my
Grandma said “so that’s what Grandpa was trying to tell me”. (He
couldn’t talk very well and was very confused so nobody really paid
attention to his comments) But at least I know that he knew!
Nathaniel came about because my husband and I both liked “Nate”.
Chad preferred Nathaniel and I liked Nathan. In the end, since I
was in labor forever and never progressed, and I had to have a
C-section, I basically was in so much pain that when the doctor asked
what the name was, I looked at my husband and said “fine, Nathaniel
Kenneth works for me”!!!As for Zachary John, we both really liked the name Zachary and John
is for my dad. Chad really like the name Jonathon for a
first name but I didn’t want him to be called “Johny Fox” (Fox is our
last name) so I told him I got my way this name!!!!We never really thought about girl names because we’ve decided that my
sil is going to have all the girls and we are destined for boys (that’s
why I think we’re done!!!)

InactiveThis is fun to read everyones stories!!
Well me and my partner are massive Sci-Fi freaks
so we wanted to name our baby after a character from one of our favourite shows !We didn’t know if we were having a boy or a girl until she was born so we thought about some names but nothing definate until we had seen him/her!!
Well we had a girl and decided on the name Kaylee as we wanted something different but not to wild

So she is named after a character from the TV show ‘Firefly’ and the film ‘Serenity’ we picked the middle name May as we thought it went well.
Not sure if we will have anymore children so we will think of more names if that happens!!

InactiveGreat stories. I really really wanted a boy when I found out I was pregnant and so did my husband. I have loved the name Lane since I seen 8 seconds with Luke Perry several years ago so our boys name is Lane Paul, Paul is my husbands name. Well when I got pregnant I thought I needed to figure out a girls name just in case (glad I did after I found out I was having one). I choose Emma b/c of Jennifer Aniston’s character on Friends had a baby girl named Emma, and it just stuck with me and there was no other names that I liked near as much. Her middle name is Susann, which is my middle name and my grandmother’s first name. So maybe one day I will have a boy and it will be named after my husband!! Maybe 4 or 5 years down the road if I’m lucky. I have no desire to have another one sooner than that!!

InactiveYes, great stories! (I just found this thread). We chose the name Reidun due to it being a Norwegian name (my husband was born and raised there) and just because I like the way it sounds. It is very unique for the US, but in Norway it is *very* old-fashioned. It means “lovely nester.” One concern, but too late to change it now, a lot of people here think it is a male name. Reidun’s middle name is Ylva, again a Norwegian name, it means “she wolf.” This is a hippish name that is gaining popularity in Norway right now. I chose it because I love dogs/wolves, I like the way it sounds, and she was born in the Chinese year of the dog.

InactiveI pronounce Reidun as “Rye-den” and Ylva as “El-va”–but in Norway they pronounce both names a little different. They have sounds that I just can’t duplicate with my tongue
. Thanks for asking!March 27, 2007 at 5:40 pm #28712Anonymous
InactiveAddyson Belle…it took awhile for us to come up with that…we both decided we liked Addyson (my husband picked it out) and I loved the idea of Addy Belle…my parents call her only Addy Belle and not Addyson ever…She has a lot of things monogrammed and I always can remember what came from my Mom because it always says Addy Belle…I think its cute! I can’t even remember other names we thought of.
If we have a son, I want to name him Tucker (my maiden name) but my dh doesn’t like it bc he thinks kids will call him a different name that starts with an F!!!!!! How awful!

InactiveWe chose Ariella b/c she was due on my late grandfather’s birthday so we decided to name her after him (his name was Ariel). He was real close to my heart and I was devastated when he passed away.

InactiveMy dh came up with Talon and Thomas is a family name, so Talon Thomas it was.
Jeremy was named after an Asian man’s son (J-ear-me) but we went with the traditional Jeremy and John is grandpa’s name.
I loved the name Carson and Jeremy loves stories about Isaiah in the Bible, so Carson Isaiah it was!

InactiveI loved reading this post!
We picked Isaac b/c it only made sense to us. My name is Sarah and the Bible Sarah name her son Isaac. Isaac means laughter which really his laughter has gotten us thru so much!
If we ever have more children the boy would be John after my dad that died when I was 6yrs old. The girl name is Ruth after my dh’s grandma that passed away last year.
We also decided that we would always choose Biblical names

InactiveWe found out we were having a girl at my 19 week ultrasound. We then went searching for names. We could not agree on any (eg I liked Emily he liked Emma). I was reading a story in a magazine one day about the Allanah and Madeleine foundation…the girls father started this after they were killed with their mother at the Port Arthur massacre (a looney went mad and killed 35 people- this kind of stuff just doesn’t happen here and it really affected everyone). he started the foundation in their name and it does a lot of stuff including anti-bullying. so i looked up the meaning of alana…precious one. This seemed so fitting….Alana was my fifth pregnancy….so alana it became (we spelt it this way because it will be easier for her to learn to spell)

InactiveThis is a great thread!
My husband chose the name Dagney because it was the character in a book he liked, Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand. I still haven’t read the book myself, but the character is a strong woman who runs the railroad and kind of saves the world after all the big businessmen pull out of society and go into seclusion (I’m probably not explaining it totally right…). We also liked it because it could be cute on a little girl, but as she grows up it could grow with her, and would really go along with any type of personality. It’s also a Scandanavian name which means “new day” (but spelled Dagny–we liked the e added to it!). We also thought it was unique, but still in the name book—but it turns out that now they’re making a movie of Atlas Shrugged with Angelina Jolie as Dagny, so I’m sure in a few years there will be THOUSANDS of little Dagney/Dagny’s runnign around!! (But ours was one of the first!!). Oh yah, we hadn’t completely decided on Dagney yet, when one day at work I got a random email from someone, who I didn’t know, named Dagny! That was that!!
We chose Mariana for my mom who passed away in 1999. I was devastated when she died, I’d lived at home still and helped care for her while she was sick, and always knew that at least the middle name of my daughter would be after her (her name was Marion). I also had a dream when I was pregnant, before we knew it was a girl, and she was in it saying something like “I have the baby”. It was a little wierd at the time, but I interpreted it as a positive, that she was looking over our little girl.

InactiveAdriana is a name that my husband has always loved. When he was young he wanted to have a daughter with that name. Then his cousin had a baby about 12 years ago and stole the name. But we decided to name her Adriana anyways. Maria was my grandmothers middle name, she passed away. I was going to use my grandmothers first name as Adriana’s middle name which is Nicolasa but decided on Maria instead.
If she were a boy we were going to be in big trouble because we could not agree on boys names. I love Noah! But Noah Cellitti doesn’t sund right.

InactiveAlexis was agreed upon by both of us as in previous post from above.
If it was a boy I really wanted to name him Xander. So when I called for both kids all I would have to yell is Alex-Xander and both of them should answer!
When we found out it was another girl I really wanted Delaney and call her Laney since we call Alexis, Lexi. So I thought it would be cute to have the girls rhyme. DH was completely against Delaney, I have never seen him so against something, I usually could convince him later but it wasn’t happening. DH wanted her initials to be TLC since our last name is Cleveland. So I made a list and he was dead set on TLC so he picked Taylor. Her middle name is Linh which is Vietnamse, we wanted to make sure both girls had a vietnamese name. Funny that her initals are TLC since she has needed a lot of it!
No more kiddos for us, the only names we will have to come up with is for future pets only! -
