Hi all! My son Matt was diagnosed 2 weeks ago w/reflux. We had several office visits and phone calls to Matt’s ped over the course of the last 2 months before they officially diagnosed him w/reflux. He is just over 12 weeks old now and weighs about 11 1/2 lbs. His ped prescribed 0.6 ml of Zantac 2x a day which worked like a charm the first week. The second week wasn’t so great. The ped told us last week that as he gains weight, we could increase his dosage to 3x a day, which we are doing now because he had a very bad day ystrdy. Here are my questions for anyone using Zantac to comfort their infant’s reflux…
I read on the marci-kids website that “children develop tolerance very rapidly to the effects of H-2 blockers” – has anyone found this to be true? if yes, what have you done about it?
We give Matt his Zantac w/his formula and I’m not sure this is the most effective way to do it. Any suggestions?
If bottle feeding w/formula – what formula have you found to work well in combination with the Zantac?
what side effects, if any, have you experienced using the Zantac? our ped told us there are no side effects but I’ve read there are.
I think I read somewhere that reflux peaks at 4 mos – anyone else read that also?
Thanks for sharing any info you can provide. I wouldn’t necessarily make any changes w/o checking with Matt’s ped first, but your responses will help make me aware of other alternatives to help my little guy through this until he grows out of it.
