InactiveHello! I just spent an hour browsing the old posts to see if this question was already asked…but I didn’t see it…so here goes!
The past two days have seemed like a “reversal” of our good luck with Zegerid. We are on day 11. The ONLY thing that I have done differently over the past few days is to go ahead and put her Zegerid doses and formula together right away and then put the whole mixture in the fridge until ready. (still just mixing with 1oz of formula to make sure she gets it all) I usually make my 3 ‘medicie bottles’ the night before so I have them for the next day. In the beginning, I was adding the Zegerid mixture to the formula RIGHT before feeding. Could that be the cause of the problem? Is there a reason maybe that the two shouldn’t be mixed until right before feeding? (*I’m hoping this is the reason she has started to regress*) She was given a high dosage for her weight/age so I’d hate to think she’s outgrown her dosage ALREADY???
I know I’m probably trying too many new things at once, but I also am on an Alimentum trial. She’s had it mixed in her bottles for the past 4 days but today was the first day of 100% alimentum. Could she be reacting poorly to that??
Ho hum…the joys of parenting. Why can’t they have little messge boards on their foreheads or something to tell us what the problem is? My dd is 4 months old and every minute that I think I’ve figured her out…she changes on me! I guess I better get used to that, eh?

Also, I am fairly new to this board so if there is a ‘limit’ to the number of questions that can be asked in a certain time frame, please let me know! I think this is my 3rd question TODAY! I don’t want to step on any toes or take up someone else’s question if there is a limit. Thanks!

Inactivedr phillps did mention that on about days 10-20 the child may start
having reflux flair ups. i know some moms on here including myself have
had to up the dose at that time and that helpedwe went from 2.5 ml 3 times a day to 3 ml 3 times a day but kept the mylanta at 2.5 (by dr phillips recommendation)

InactiveAmy:
Don’t worry – you can’t possibly ask too many questions
That is why we are here.As far as mixing the Zegerid with formula ahead of time, I would definitely email Dr. Phillips and pose the same question. His email is phillipsjo@health.missouri.edu. I always put it in right before giving her the bottle so I guess I just don’t know. You could also try emailing the general email on Marci-kids info@marci-kids.com if for some reason you wouldn’t get a response from Dr. P.
Hopefully you can find out what is going on. Please keep us posted!!

InactiveIf I remember correctly I think that you are not supposed to put it in the milk for to long of a period because it will degrade. Thats why they say put it in the bottle and feed immediately. This may be what is going on with your little one. But of course it could be what the above poster said. I would stop adding it like that and contact Dr. Phillips.

InactiveAmy-
I believe that you can not mix the Zegerid with the formula until you are ready to use. I looked through my notes from Dr. Phillips and he had indicated that to me when we first began using Zegerid.
We started to regress on day 17 with the Zegerid as well. We went from 30mgs daily to 36mgs, we saw improvement within a few days after increasing. I think Evan was only 13lbs at that time… He is still on 36mls and weighed in at 16lbs last week. Dr. Phillips has indicated that some babes need more meds than others to control symptoms.

InactiveWe were told by Joel, that once you add the med to the milk you can only keep it in there for about an hour. Otherwise the stability is affected. We were told to put it in and feed right away, if possible. (He was talking about CaraCream, but same thing, really.)

InactiveTHANK YOU! That is what I was wondering. I was so discouraged this weekend when the reflux monster seemed to be returning. I will make sure not to mix the medicine until right before! So glad to know that! Since Sarah is on such a high dosage to begin with, I didn’t think it would be ready to increase just yet.
THANK YOU AGAIN!

PS – I’ve asked this before but have never had a response…has anyone found that Alimentum makes their babies really gassy??? Not only does her gas smell even worse than normal but it seems to be bothering her???

Inactiveare you using powder or RTF?
what comes to mind is the powder has a lot of corn syrup in it which makes many babies gassy.

InactiveIt seems like some babies get gassy from Alimentum but it gets better after about, you guessed it, TWO WEEKS!! Isn’t it funny how the two week mark is how we gauge so many things.
You maybe already know this, but you can mix the medicine ahead of time, just can’t mix it in the formula until you are ready to feed it to her.
Hope switching the mixing makes all the difference for you!!
