InactiveHello ladies. I finally got a script to give my dd zegerid. I know she gets 8mg 3xs daily. Now when I mix up the 20mg pack will that be enough to give her the 3 doses. I know the mixing instructions say the final volume is 10mls. I’m a bit confused. Can anyone help out. I will probably start her on this tomorrow. Thanks!

InactiveI would email Joel at Marci-kids and ask him – his email is andrewsjj@health.missouri.edu. That is great that it will be 3 times per day – that seems to be the real solution. We mix a 20mg packet with 6.5 ml water which makes 10 ml of medication. We give her 4.5 ml of medicine 3 times per day and it has been a Godsend. Hope it works well for you. We mix it in one ounce of formula and give it to her around 6am, 1:00 pm. and 6:30 pm. I try to give it to her when she is really hungry so she sucks it right down. We noticed a difference within a few days and almost perfection within 2 weeks. Sorry I can’t help more -I tend to get the mg and ml thing confused in my head and it is Thursday – my brain is ready for a vacation from work!!

InactiveHello. I just noticed that our little ones were born on the say day, one year apart!! Emma has been on Zegerid for quite a while and it was our lifesaver. I hope it works just as well for you. The concentration for Zegerid is 2mg/1ml so you will be giving 4ml per dose so the 20mg packets are what you should be using. You will actually be using more than one packet to give her 24mg/day. Did the doc say why he/say gave you only 24mg when you were on 30mg of Prevacid?? We started out lower but found 30mg is what she needed so I hope you can move up if that is the case.
What I do is mix one packet of Zegerid with 6.5ml of water making the final 10mls. I only have 10ml syringes. That will give you 2 doses of 4ml and then you will have 2ml left over so you would have to mix another packet together to get the 2ml needed for the final dose. On the http://www.marci-kids.com website they say to use a 20 or 30ml syringe. In that case you could mix more than one packet together and get all 3 doses at the same time plus more. The marci-kids website does explain the mixing instructions pretty good, I hope I didn’t confuse you more.

InactiveAccording to the ppi dosing calculator and her weight, she should get 24mg of the zegerid and 30mg of the prevacid(if that’s what we would continue).
Thanks for your response!

InactiveGood Luck to you Melissa! We are on day 7 of the Zegerid and I have seen a consistent improvement with my son. Joel is an awesome resource to have at MARCI-Kids. He has really helped us to understand the dosing instructions as it is confusing in the beginning.
Take Care

InactiveMelissa ~ I didn’t even think about that when I asked about the dosing. Emma has been on Zegerid so long I forgot Prevacid had different criteria. The mixing just becomes second nature once you do it for a while. I think I could do it in my sleep
Joel ~ Everything I know is b/c of you, it is great to be able to help others. I told my ped GI if I have another one with the same issues I am going straight to Zegerid if the zantac isn’t enough control, thankfully she said no problem!!btrue2006-6-29 16:4:57

InactiveGood luck with the Zegerid. I’m glad that your doc was willing to give you a decent dose. I’m sure she’ll get some relief now.
