InactiveI am thinking about asking Abby’s GI on her next appt. to try a switch to Zegerid b/c as we start to into. solids, it is going to be much harder to give the Prevacid on any empty stomach. I looked on the Marc-Kids website and it says to mix it in a syringe with a capped end. Are these hard to find? They give a website to buy them on but they only come in bulk and I don’t need that many. The ones I have seen do not have caps on the ends. I don’t want to switch meds. if I can’t find the right stuff to mix it in. Thanks

Inactiveyou dont need a syringe with a capped end! we just mix everything up in a little plastic cup from the docs office.

InactiveIf you want to do it the recommended way by using the syringe, we were able to get them at the local veterinary clinic (much cheaper than at a drug store also
. Mixing it in a cup, you will not be able to get all of the medication out of it and will end up wasting it. The syringe assures that you get all of it. We got a couple 30ml syringes and several 6 ml syringes and they had the tip caps and everything. It works really great. It’s really nice because you can mix up quite a bit of it and put it into individual syringes. We use the 20 mg packets and mix 3 packets with just about 20ml of water which makes 30ml of the Zegerid. If you have any other questions, feel free to ask!!

InactiveI was going to try Zegerid but ended up staying with Prevacid, but I did buy the syringes at The Medicinne Shoppe. They had to special order them but it only took a few days.
I still have them and would be happy to send them to you if you’d like them. Just email me your address and I’ll send them to you. ndakotarose@yahoo.com

InactiveHave Trace and Abby (we have good taste in names
) always been on Zegerid? I am just nervous about switching from Prevacid since she is doing well on it. But it is going to be an issue once we start solids. Her spitting up is pretty non-exsistent since switching to the Neocate but she is still crying during some of her feedings. I am wondering if the Zegerid might help with this also. Thanks

InactiveHello,
You can get a syringe with a cap at Wal-mart in the pharmacy section. I actually just bought one the other day! It comes in a kit with a little lid that you put on a medicine bottle so you can insert the syringe and tip the bottle upside down to pull the meds out.September 11, 2006 at 2:34 pm #13359Anonymous
InactiveAbby has been on Zegerid since she was about a month old. Worked great ever since!! We noticed a difference in a couple of days with total relief in a couple of weeks. We finally had that little happy baby we had always wanted!! Rather than typing my whole Zegerid story, you can do a search by using my name in the search or just type in Zegerid in the search and all my past posts should come up (except from when we were hacked
. Zegerid has really been awesome for us!!Robin

InactiveAnother quick question. I emailed Dr. Phillips about her dose. He email me back with the dosing info. and said to use the 40mg packet and she should take 10mg 3x’s per day. He also said to mix the dose with Mylanta Cherry Supreme. Do any of you do this or do you just put it plain in their bottles? Do you give it three times per day? He said to give it morning, supper and bedtime. I called the doctor today and left a message for the nurse about switching. Wish me luck!!

InactiveI guess I haven’t used the 40mg packets – the 20’s have worked so well I really don’t plan to switch. I know that Jenay (momtoevan) has used the 40’s but I think she switched to the 20’s. Hopefully she will pop in.
Good luck!!

InactiveAbby’s mom-
What is Abby’s dose? He said to mix the 40mg packet in 6.5ml of water making a 10ml mixture. So 4mg per 1ml. Then give her 2.5ml 3x’s per day which equals out to 10mg of Zegerid 3x’s per day.

InactiveAndrea:
With her on the 20mg packets, she is presently getting 5ml 3 times per day which is 30mg per day. We also mix the 20mg packet with 6.5 ml of water but I think with the 40mg packets, the Mylanta is necessary to have enough buffer to protect the medicine. I could be wrong but I am really not sure. Abby is a little over 7 months old and weighs about 16 pounds (at last visit in late August). I would check with Dr. P about the reasoning for the Mylanta use.
Hope you can get it figured out!

Inactivedo you put it in Abby’s bottle or give it by mouth? How does she do with the taste? I don’t know if we should do the 20 or 40 mg packet? I guess the 40mg packet would last longer b/c I would only have to use 2.5ml instead of 5ml. but I would have to add the Mylanta.

InactiveAndrea:
We mix it with one ounce of formula and it hasn’t been a problem at all. She sucks it right down, then we have another bottle already made up and we switch. Sometimes I think she likes the taste of the medicine bottle better than the plain bottle

InactiveAndrea, Good luck with the Zegerid. I hope it turns things around for you the way Prevacid did for us.
