InactiveZantac is about the cheapest medicine we’ve used so far. Not that you can put a price on your children feeling well.
How does the cost of the PPI’s run. I know Henry’s prevacid costs quite a bit/month. Are most of them in the same price range?
My insurance isn’t that great, so that’s why I have to ask.

InactiveIt used to cost us $120 a month for Myles’ Prevacid….and that’s after what insurance paid. Our Prescription plan sucks.
Our medical coverage is good, so I guess I shouldn’t complain…but between my asthma meds, Eliana’s allergy meds, DH’s high blood pressure meds and other various meds we were spending over $250 a month just for prescription medication!
It’s better now that Myles is off Prevacid, but we still spend way too much on drugs.I’m pretty sure Zegerid costs more than Prevacid, but there is that coupon at their website for $30 off, which I’m sure helps alot.

InactiveWhen Abby was on Prevacid solutabs I think it cost us around $25 for the month’s supply. Now she is on Zegerid and it costs us $40 (20mg Packet) for the months supply. But I want to switch to the 40mg packet b/c there is too much buffer in the 20mg packet for her and the co-pay is still $40 and the 40mg packet will last us twice as long. I guess our prescription coverage is pretty good b/c we don’t have a large co-pay.

InactiveWe don’t have insurance. No insurance company will insure my dd because of her reflux. Plus, my hubby doesn’t get insurance through his work since he is self employed. So it will cost us $114 a month for prevacid.

Inactiveokay i dont get this…..our insuarance company said no way to zegerid because it is so much. yet they said they would cover prevacid (which he cant tolerate). the price difference isnt *that* much??….i didnt know prevacid was over a hundred dollars.???
god that is wrong!
what if i asked them if they would cover as much for zegerid as they would pay for prevacid? i thinks thats fair. i wonder if they would do that. i dont see why not.October 23, 2006 at 5:05 pm #16456Anonymous

I don’t know if your insurance works like ours but they wouldn’t approve the Zegerid until she had been on Prevacid and Protonix b/c it is considered a step therapy med. But Protonix isn’t FDA approved for infants. Her GI nurse just had to call and she didn’t have a problem.

That’s quite a dilemma. Have you looked into those “savings plans”? It’s not insurance, but it covers major medical incase anything big should occur. We have design savers plan. It’s not great, but at least it’s something.
Also, I wanted to tell you not to feel too bad. We pay $100 for a months supply of prevacid WITH insurance (that’s regular health insurance).
Yes, we tried the medical coverage for my son. I don’t know if it’s different from state to state, but in Ohio, we made too much $$. It’s barely worth even working! And with daycare costs. I should just quit and get some $$ from the goverment. Unbeleivable!

KeymasterFYI:
There is a website for people
who cannot afford their meds. It’s at:http://www.needymeds.com/indices/brandname.shtml
It has a listing of medications & the manufacturers that have
assistance programs, many times they provide the medicine for free if
you meet their criteria.&
copied from a post (I can’t give the person credit ):
You can contact 1-800-830-1015 for the TAP Prevacid Patient Assistance Program. They GIVE prevacid (capsules only) away for free if you meet certain guidelines. You can even have partial prescription drug coverage. I do, and it would cost over $300 per month for the boys prevacid alone if I did not get it from them.

InactiveHere prevacid costs 150 dollars for a months supply of capsules. But our plan is really good and covers all but 5 dollars. When we got it compounded we had to pay for a lot more, though I can’t remember how much. I feel for you guys who are paying it out of pocket.s&h’s mum2006-10-24 9:7:52
