InactiveI posted today or yesterday about Addy’s low grade fever. Well today she woke up with a rash on her face and really bad behind her ears. I didn’t think much besides it being a typical Addy rash but when she woke up from her afternoon nap, it had spread all over her face, neck and adbomen. I took her to the doc this afternoon and they diagnosed it as a rash and fever from her MMR vacicination that she had 2 weeks ago. Just wanted to warn other moms about this. Apparently only 10% of babies get this but I didn’t know about it….and of course, with her other problems, I feel that Addy is more prone to other problems that other babies don’t deal with. She’s doing okay but feels yucky.

InactivePoor Addy! The little girl needs a break!

At my peds office, they always go through the what to watch for list, but I really pay little attention. I probably should more now with Owen being more sensitive!
Hope things get better!

InactivePoor thing. I am sure she will pick up soon. Maybe it was acutally the egg in the vaccine (i’m pretty sure they are grown in eggs).

InactivePoor sweetie.
I hope she’s feeling better soon. Thanks for the head’s up. I didn’t know that either. At our clinic they always give us handouts to take home and read about each shot. I usually stick them in the diaper bag and forget about them, but at least I have them if something comes up. I’ll have to check (Liza just got her 5 yr shots) and see if it says that about the MMR on my sheets.
How long did they say this would last? No too long I hope.

InactiveThey really didn’t say how long it would last…when I asked, she just said if it got worse and spread everywhere to come back in. From what I have found online, it lasts 4 days…but I do not know if that is 4 days from start of the fever (which was Wednesday) or 4 days from the start of the rash (Friday)??? She still has it today and still a low grade fever. The tylenol is REALLY helping her. It says online that her joints are most likely very sore too and possibly her throat. I also found that it actually is a small case of the measles and not “just a reaction”…of course they did not tell me that at the doctor. She isn’t contagious, but still I wish they would have explained it that way! We are researching a lot today and will be for awhile to decide if vaccinations are the way to go for our family.

Inactivei am glad you are researching. MMR is a live vaccine so i am not surprised

InactiveHmmm….the handouts I got at the clinic don’t say how long it lasts either. Just that a high fever is possible a week to two after the shot, and that 1 in 20 people get a rash, 1 in 6 get the fever.

Hopefully it will pass soon.

InactiveMy head is spinning!!!!!!!!!!!! I am in the thick of doing research on vaccinations. Not another drop of a vaccine will touch Addy! I am pissed off!
This is overwhelming!!!!!! I wish I had done research before letting a nurse inject my daughter! Hopefully this will pass and will not cause any more serious problems!

InactiveJust another thing to throw out there. The mmr has aborted fetal tissue in it. I know sounds crazy, but it’s true.

InactiveI know!!!!!!!! This all is unacceptable!
I just read for the first time the closed post titled “teething” that turned into a vaccination debate…I don’t want to start that here but it is packed full of some great info.

There are 4929 pages (several per page) events where MMR vaccine caused some type of adverse symptom, some resulting in disabilities and seizures.

InactiveTracy,
I’m sorry to hear that Addy had a reaction to her vaccine. I just wanted to caution about “researching” these things over the internet. There is lots of information over the internet, and it’s often hard to know where it came from or what it means. Since you’re concerned, I would talk to your doctor about the reaction that Addy had and what it means for her in terms of this type of vaccine and future vaccinations. I would also talk to him about her FPIES and allergies, and make sure that any future vaccinations she receives will be safe for her. You might even want to speak to your allergist about it.
Realizing that this topic is often one that gets heated and I should probably keep my mouth shut, I do feel the need to raise a point here anyways. I think the growing rebellion over vaccinations is becoming a very scary and dangerous thing. Many people are looking at the potential side effects of vaccinations, some legitimate and some not, some based on real information, and some based on false internet information, and they making decisions not to vaccinate their children based on the rationale that the disease isn’t prevalent anyhow, and so their risk of getting the disease is not really worth it when weighing the issues. I think it’s important to remember that these illnesses can cause death and disability, and the reason that they’re not prevalent anymore is BECAUSE of vaccination programs like the ones that exist now. The changes in climate and our environment due to global warming are causing mutations and resurgences in viruses and bacteria that have been dormant for a long time. Combining this with the new patterns of frequent air travel means that illnesses and outbreaks have a mode of transmission around the world that can be difficult to control. Those scary facts, along with the fact that people are not vaccinating their children like they should, puts our kids at risks for epidemics of diseases that we thought were well controlled. Such decisions not only affect the particular child who isn’t vaccinated, but also everyone else’s child.
Four years ago, I was unfortunate enough to live in Toronto when the SARS outbreak started. The first case started in China, and people were exposed while travelling and returned to our country not knowing they were sick. By the time the issue was diagnosed, it was too late and it spread VERY fast. Thousands of people died and tens of thousands were quarantined. I was pregnant with Sarah at the time, and I can honestly tell you that it was the most horrifying experience of my life. There is nothing like being afraid to walk out of your front door for fear that you may catch a disease in the air, or worse, that your children can catch something just by walking outside that will kill them. It is horrifying to have to walk outside wearing N95 masks and gloves and being afraid to come into contact with other people. Perhaps if people had to live through those experiences then they would be more appreciative of the fact that there are vaccines out there than can stop the spread of diseases. I’m sure that during the time of SARS, if a vaccine existed, then the lineups in Toronto to get that vaccine would have been unbelievable. I’m sure the same would be true of any future outbreak of disease. The problem is that being retroactive really is not the solution.
I hope that people make wise decisions not just for themselves, but for the future.

InactiveThank you for that information, Lori.
Everyone has a side here and I know its such a hot button issue with many people. I will do my best to make an educated decision concerning what is best for my child. I know that there is a lot of false info on the internet but reading medical research and not someone’s blog or “take” on the subject is where I am getting my information. I hope I will make the best decision for Addy’s future and her health. Thanks again for all the info from everyone here and in pm’s.I think we should probably just end this thread here…I do not want to get into a debate on the subject since it raises such high emotions.

Inactivevaccinations have nothing to do with the decline of diseasese. Tracy, along with all the info i pmed you, here is a handout from our peds office. i scanned it for you. you should be able to zoom in on the image. you can see where the vaccines came in and the diseases were already on the way out.

also, you can go to our peds website-homefirst.com and click on “links”. there is a ton of info on vaccinations. he currently has 30,000 non vaxing families and growing

InactiveNatalie, you have a ped that is good about you not vaccinating? WOW! I wish I did. Mine is okay don’t get me wrong, but she could be better.
I’m not going to go on about vaccines, but feel the need to defend my decision. I didn’t make my decision based on any fear. I prayed about it and researched it and felt God telling me not to vaccinate. I would never tell anyone else not to, but to research it for themselves. I personally just don’t like all the stuff in the vaccines. I also can’t possibly put aborted fetal tissue into my childs veins. That is for religious reasons. A friend of mine thought I was crazy saying there was aborted fetal tissue in the vaccines so she asked her ped about it. He didn’t know anything about it either and researched it for himself and came and told her there was aborted fetal tissue in it. There are many great Drs out there like Natalie’s that don’t believe in it and they have done the research for themselves. They are not just internet quacks. To defend the other side there are also many great docs. that do believe in them. I think we should all pray about it and do research and do what we feel is right.
Global warming is an interesting topic. I don’t believe in global warming either. It’s interesting that they say cabon dioxide is the problem and yet that is what we breath out. HMMMMM! Interesting. That is just me though. Do you ladies remember when the big thing was the hole in the ozone? Apparently they have realized that is completly natural. Something the earth does on its own. We don’t hear about that anymore though.
Fear Fear Fear! Fear makes money. That is what I believe. Not meant for everybody to believe what I do. Okay, I won’t say anymore.
