Inactivehow do i do this? i was thinking about it..because i am very worried he isnt getting enough fat/protien. i am trying the goats but he is spitting up more..
can i add it to the rice milk?… or do i have to make 2 ounces of formula than add rice milk to it? what i mean is.. can i mix the powder with rice milk.. or does it have to be water?

Inactiveyou can mix in the powder with anything. i know people that mix it in with rice milk or almond milk for extra calories. i do too, sometimes. since you are worried about fat/protein, have you thought about using the pacific brand almond milk instead of rice milk. it has more of each.

Inactivethanks natalia..
i do have the almond one too.. and its the same fats.. but just more protien! it says 2.5 mg’s fat…. what does your say??? is there more than one kind? mine also says low fat vanilla on the front of it.. is there one that isnt “low fat” ??
and i dont know what to do if he doesnt take the alimentum.. (i think he def. wont). i just dont feel comfortable with just rice milk.. the goat he really DOEs spit up more with. i am almost to the point that i would throw some soy formula in there!!!

InactiveI think it would be worth a shot to try mixing alimentum powder with rice milk. Who knows…he might like it??? Or at least tolerate it if it’s not straight alimentum. That way you won’t have to worry so much about his nutrition.

Inactivesorry it has more fat than the rice milk brand we use. but the protein is a definite plus.
try making him a mixture of like 6 oz of the milk then like 1-2 scoops formula. that is what i do at mealtimes with Trace. he doesnt know the difference. and i know that isnt a full concentrated bottle, but it at least adds a little bit of nutrition.
Trace is back to wanting more neocate bottles now…its weird.

Inactivenatalia~ thats great.. that he wants more neocate.. and weird too..haha.. atleast you dont have to worry much.
amy~ yea, i am gona give it a try when he wake up. i really dont want to do the soy…but i dont know what else to fortify it with if he doesnt take to it..
..wish us luck that his taste buds disapear!haha.June 16, 2007 at 10:43 am #36959Anonymous
Inactivewait i wonder though if the small amount of milk in alimentum would worsen his sleep issues though? it was horrible for us.
June 16, 2007 at 11:02 am #36960Anonymous
Inactivehmm. i dont think so.. he did alimentum o.k for 4 mos… his sleep actually wasnt too bad back then.. he actually moves more now than he ever did..
i think that two scoops of it a day or so shouldnt be too bad anyhow.
thanks for thinking of it though!

he has been the same with his sleep on goodstart and on just rice.. (we have cut out goats for almost 2 weeks now) and i just started giving him some goat yogurt and his spitting up returned!ugh.. i am almost ready to just think its the way he sleeps.. he doesnt wake up crying.. just so restless. i can tell if a food effects him more by how much he spits up.. than how he sleeps.the rice seems GREAT, nooo spitting up! but his sleep is still restless. soo.. i dont know if i’ll ever really solve that issue.. i am hoping an ENT can shed more light possibly

InactiveI had another thought…if you are wanting the nutrition of alimentum but he won’t drink it, what if you put a few ounces in some pancake batter and made it that way? I’m sure it’s not the best tasting pancake out there…but I have thought about trying it myself! Can he do pancakes/waffles?
June 16, 2007 at 11:11 am #36962Anonymous
Inactiveohh yea thats a good idea! i never make pancakes but i will start! haha.

KeymasterI made pancakes w/ baby cereal & blackstrap molasses-it worked when I used a recipe, lol

Inactivehe actually didnt drink it toooo bad. not as well as rice milk alone.. but he didnt flat out refuse it! it did have that horrid smell though
.. hopefully he’ll get adjusted!!June 16, 2007 at 2:03 pm #36975Anonymous
InactiveLauren,
Have you thought about talking with a nutritionist? Maybe they would have some ideas of what you could do besides soy so he gets enough fats & protein… Just an idea. I know you must be SO stressed trying to figure out what to do…June 16, 2007 at 2:44 pm #36978Anonymous
Inactivei tried calling a nutritionist and they said that they need a refearal from the ped in order to have insurance cover it! soo.. i am currently swtiching to another ped..and my appointment is in 2 weeks! soo.. not really sure what to do until then.
but i already know he does great on rice milk..so i know there is a protien issue playing in with his reflux.. everything else he seems to reflux. i probably could figure out enough fats and protiens to give him if i just did rice milk..but its sooo TIREDSOME and takes soo much effort everyday.. and i stress if he wont eat it! thats why i am looking more for something he can drink so i wont have to worry about how much he eats!
