Our daughter started Prevacid dissolving tablets about a month ago–we didn’t know it should have been taken 30 minutes prior to eating, plus often the “sand” would get caught in the bottle and I don’t think she got the full dosage at times.

Then we went to the liquid Prevacid a week ago, and also about five days ago I learned (via this site ) that I should be giving it to her prior to food, not during.

My question is: does the medicine build up in the system, thereby making a missed dose less of a problem, for example? Or do the feedings right before a dose sometimes cause more reflux than would feedings right after a dose?

I hope that question makes sense!

not sure how to answer your question about feeding & prevacid…

yes it doesn build up in the system- it turns off some of the the proton pumps that make the acid. check out http://www.marci-kids.com and surf through there, as thre is an expalnation there. there are also explanations from the Medicines Forum- check out the ‘stickied’ posts (the ones at the top)

I want to clarify about liquid prevacid:

you mean compounded prevacid?

this can be given any time, with food or without food.

BUT it’s very difficult to get the prevacid compounded CORRECTLY…

I did read that link about how the compounding should be done and fortunately, the pharmacy made it correctly.

I was just wondering if it really does lose its effectiveness after 14 days, as some say, or if people have experienced success with the compound after two weeks in the fridge?

I wouldn’t push it past 2 weeks, that’s just me- why mess with a good thing you know?

lucky you to get it made w/o flavoring, etc!
