question about compounded prevacid

Hi All. DS got put on prevacid yesterday. The doctor ordered it in granule form (I’m assuming) because over the phone she told me I would sprinkle it in a little bit of his formula and give it to him that way. Well when I went to the pharmacist he told me that it would be way too difficult to break open the capsule and figure out how to give him half of it at a time. He told me he had to compound it and that is what he does with all pediatric doses. So I get it compounded, come home and do some research, and find out that it isn’t even recommended to get it compounded. The pharmacist did not flavor it with anything so I know that is better but I also found out that it will most likely lose its effectiveness after 2 weeks! So now I have this whole bottle of compounded prevacid. To make matters worse, I tried to give it to DS this morning and he absolutely hated the taste and didn’t swallow any of it. I ended up squirting it into a little bit of formula and giving it to him that way just to get it in him. So much for waiting 20 minutes before eating! Does anyone have experience with giving prevacid this way? I’m concerned it isn’t even going to do anything for him. Not sure if I should call my doc and ask her to call in another script for it or what. Help! Thanks.
