AnonymousInactiveMy dd was still refluxing and on Zegerid at 15 months old. We eliminated the top 8 allergens plus all the one that showed on her patch test. We saw improvements after about 2 weeks, but the real improvement came after we started her on plant based digestive enzymes. After two weeks on them, her puking decreased by 70% and after 3 months we did a med free trial and she did very well. We have been on enzymes ever since and on a hypoallergenic diet and so far so good.
Elimination diet are time consuming and fustrating, but they are worth it IMO. If you need help finding hypoallergenic foods, ask away, Sheri usually has good ideas and i can help too.P.S. Kendra also struggles with eczema since she was 3 weeks old. We are still a work in progress, but is way better these days.hugsLeokendramom2008-09-11 10:37:20

AnonymousInactivegreat to hear you have so very knowleagble people helping your dd!
we have been using plant based digestive enzymes since Kendra was around 15 months old and i wish we have tried them sooner. Kendra vomtitng and Gi issues got sooooo mcuh better after we started them. For a 4 month old, i woudl start with a 1/4 capsule with each meal, and increase if no improvement is seen (continue Gi discomfort, too much vomiting). I use those probitoic brand as well and my dd tolerate them well.Sheri gave you some great info. If you have any other questions, please ask; i’ll try to help out based on my experience.LeoJune 28, 2008 at 9:38 am #53142In reply to: Digestive Enzymes and Probiotics

AnonymousInactiveChristine,
have you heard of Zyme Prime and Peptizyde made by Houston Inc.?My MIL, whom is celiac, said she has gotten great benefits from these two enzymes specifically. It is not a quick fix of course, but she said she can eat a meal when she goes out with freinds containing gluten as long as she take these with the meal. Dosing has to be right and she works with a holistic chripocator (sp?) who has helped her figure out the right dose for her. You can read more info on the website above. There is also a book by Karen DeFelice, where she shares her personal testimony as long with other people. I thought it was very informative and worth a try for me (or Kendra).I never heard of the Zonulin Antagonist before. i’ll have to do some more research about that one.thanks for the added info.Leokendramom2007-10-19 12:43:26

I find this site very informative and wanted to share it for anybody interested in knowing more about enzymes and how they can “help” different health issues. The founder also wrote a great detailed book about enzymes called “Enzymes for Digestive Health and Nutritional Wealth” by Karen DeFelice. I finished reading it and i am “sold”.I will be trying some of them to see if it helps Kendra’s food, gut and inmune system issues, like she said it does. I would also be working with a natural doctor. If anybody is interested in knowing results, just PM me and i will try to let you know how we are doing based on my notes. I will be keeping a journal. I won’t start for another 3 -4 weeks. I will be meeting with the doctor in NY next week.
i hope this helps someone.July 5, 2007 at 1:42 pm #38631In reply to: Probiotics?
hellbenntKeymasterWHAT ARE PROBIOTICS? SCROLL FOR ACTUAL PRODUCTS 🙂

Probiotics are healthy bacteria that our gut needs. This bacteria is already in the gut, but can be depleted through use of antibiotics and other dietary/lifestyle choices. These healthy bacteria promote proper digestion and gut function, reduce inflammation, even produce vitamins that our body needs. They also help fight bad bacteria and yeast from taking over in the gut. In essence, our gut NEEDS these healthy bacteria in order to function properly. Without them, you may see GI symptoms like reflux, GI pain, constipation or diarrhea, excessive gas, improper digestion, etc.WHAT SYMPTOMS MIGHT OCCUR AT FIRST?[QUOTE=kdub] When you (or your lo) first start taking them, it seems like they are making you worse. What is happening is that the probiotic is killing off all of the icky yeast. I’m not sure of all the symptoms but I know one symptom is irritability. It kind of has to get worse for a little bit before it gets better. Hang in there! Here is some more info:
(scroll down to the “What About Die-Off” topic)Some kids may actually show worsening of GI symptoms initially when starting a probiotic. This is OK – it’s a sign that the “bad” bacteria, yeast, etc. is dying off as it is being outcrowded by the “good” bacteria in the probiotic. These die-off symptoms could be irritability, gas, cramping, diarrhea, etc. and usually only last about a few days.DO THEY NEED TO BE REFRIGERATED? (YES, the majority of the time.) Read here for more (2nd post):(this link should work) https://www.infantreflux.org/forums/topic/probiotic-trivia-question/#post-52084

Definately the best probiotic we’ve used, and is dairy, soy and gluten free.
You really can’t go wrong with the Kirkman’s Pro-Bio Gold. It’s likely one of the best available. It’s a good multistrain probiotic that is completely dairy and soy free. For children under 30 lbs it is recommended to give 1/2 capsule per day. Some kids with more severe GI problems may need more (like my little Paige).

the flora baby is working great. It is made by renew life and so far so good. We are on day six without any reactions that I can see.
[before this one I ordered Country Life Maxi Baby-Dophilus…it has trace milk/lactose & baby got bumps on his face…]
From Tiphaine! Facebook 2015Originally posted by motherof3I did find Solaray BabyLife Probiotics that are milk and soy free. I have to order some. Here:Originally posted by amy0013Just wanted to chime in that I bought iFlora 4-Kids. It’s formulated for children under the age of 1. It says it is dairy free. The “other ingredient” listed is Rice Starch. It is also a powder that I added to Sarah’s bottles.

we use floraMore by renewlife as well. this one is for children 1 and up. [see flora baby, above, as in July 2015 it cannot be located] It is working really well for kendra( she has lost of allergies and no reaction at all so far). she had an yeast infection b/c of the antibiotics she is on now for another ear infection she has and it’s under control with this probiotic. Also renew life probiotic has FOS (fructooligosaccharides) added to it, a type of carbohydrates that acts as food for acidofhilus, helping this little bugs multiply and attach themselves better to the intestine. Also, a mom a know told me that i could springle it on kendra’s bottom as well when her rashes get too bad. She has done with her baby with good results.from Happy Mom:Taking a probiotic supplement can be very helpful because probiotics coat our entire digestive tract. When we are low on probiotics then our system is left unprotected and can get raw and can even bleed. But one of the reasons we can be low on probiotics is because excess acid from our stomach kills probiotics. And most often the reason our stomach produces too much acid is from a lack of digestive enzymes. Our pancreas is what makes the enzymes and puts them into the stomach to break down our food (protein in particular). But for some people including babies, the pancreas has a hard time keeping up. So it is extremely important to also take enzymes with the probiotics.
people list the ones they’ve used (CHECK INGREDIENTS BEFORE PURCHASING!!!):Nature’s Way Primadophilus for Children (has trace amounts of milk)
Udo’s Choice
kyo-adophoulous
NatrolCulturelleI use: baby Jarrodophilus but I think they have milk or soy? you’d have to check…I buy it at the health food supermarket, they are in the refrigerated section (in my store they’re by the flax seed oil)
you have to look at the labels to see which one(s) are milk/soy free and/or ask a person working there…hellbennt2012-05-30 19:06:03
