Can anyone recommend digestive enzymes safe for a 3 year old? Particularly ones that have DPP-IV, to aid in digestion of gluten and casein? I’m finding some things with Kirkman Labs and enzymedica but am confused about which ones are safe for children.
TIA!May 8, 2008 at 1:33 pm #51231AnonymousInactiveJill I can’t help with this but I know Leo (Kendramom) has lots of info on digestive enzymes. You might want to pm her b/c I don’t know how often she is on lately.

The GI put her on Pancrecarb MS-4 capsules to be given with each feeding, typically it is used for Cystic fibrosis people to help aid with food protein breakdown. She does not have CF but her body was just working too hard to breakdown the food proteins so he thought her body could use some extra help.

I just ordered Kids Digest from the enzymedica site. It is specially formulated for children and you scoop it out instead of having to break capsules. 🙂 I’ll let you know how Kaden does on it. I hope it helps him with his eating and digesting!May 9, 2008 at 9:01 am #51259AnonymousInactiveHi Jill, My son who is now 3 will not take the Kids Digest becauce you have to mix it in juice and then it fizzes up. If I use the Lacto or Digest capsules and put it in milk or juice, he doesn’t even notice it’s in there and will drink it right away.
Just thought you might want to know 🙂AlessMay 9, 2008 at 10:15 am #51260AnonymousInactiveoh wow! thanks for the info. I already ordered. We’ll see how it goes. Maybe I can get my little one to take it if my 3yo won’t. thanks for the recommendations too!

If not, we’ve been using enzymes from Houston Nutraceuticals for Ben and Paige and they’ve been great. I like to mix the kids’ enzymes into fruit sauce (apple sauce or baby food fruit works great) and have them eat that at the beginning of their meal. Then you don’t have to worry about it mixing into their drink well, or little floaties, or undisolved parts that get left at the bottom of the cup. Maybe you could do that with the Kids Digest too? I’m sure you could phone Enzymedica to check – I would think fruit juice and fruit sauce should have similar enough properties to produce the same response. Kirkman is also a great company. We get lots of supplements from them too.
