InactiveDoes anyone have a milk/soy free recipe for cake/frosting? I would hate for my little guy to miss that joy of smashing his face in the cake/frosting on his 1st birthday. But he is definately allergic to milk. We gave him icecream and he got hives SO BADLY on his back it took a good week and a half to get rid of them! He wasnt bothered much by them thankfully but obviously he cannot have any milk products. He has been on neocate, Ive heard some use rice milk..anyone try that? Any luck?

InactiveThere are some box mixes in the natural section that are dairy, soy and gluten free at some of the bigger grocery stores (shaws, etc..) they also had frosting mixes…

Inactivehttp://www.cherrybrookkitchen.com has a lot of sweets (including icing that are milk/soy free) that are allergen free!
I meant to post this the other day. I ordered their variety pack since Addy couldn’t have solids on here 1 year birthday, we are doing a 18 month birthday party (no presents but plenty of dairy free cake!). Their customer service is awesome! I haven’t made the cake yet but I opened their chocolate chip cookies (dairy free) to make and take to playgroup but the plastic interior bag had a hole so I didn’t feel comfortable using it. I emailed the company and they sincerely apologized, and told me a replacement would be on its way that day. I received it and it had 2 chocolate chip cookies mixes, 1 brownie mix (all dairy free), a plush moose keychain and 2 spatulas! I thought that was so nice to include so much extra stuff!!!!!!

KeymasterSomeone posted 2 recipes[from yahoobreastfeeding reflux], which I’m, putting here. However, the first one is chocolate- good question: How are our GERDlings & chocolate?hmm…However, chocobase is chocolate (maybe just flavoring?) ? Hmmm. & the 2nd recipe requires nuts- I wonder if the cake is any good w/o them?

Also in my hunt I found this from http://users.aol.com/katherinez/kath2.htm
[doesn’t exist anymore
]: “If your child is egg allergic, you can substitute a mixture of 1 1/2 tablespoons water + 1 1/2 tablespoons oil + 1 teaspoon baking powder, mixed together, for one egg. For two eggs, just double this. My good friend Kathy gave me this combination, and also noted that she always adds 1 heaping teaspoon of arrowroot powder to each cup of flour in her non-dairy, non-egg baking in addition to her egg substitute. This will keep your baking product firm and crisp!”

duncan hines is no longer dairy free, I think…
http://www.kosherblog.net/index.php/2005/08/09/duncan_hines_ going_dairy
do you live anywhere near a kosher bakery? they can make you a non-dairy cake– it’s called pareve- tell them no dairy
or WHole Foods can make one
or look here to find a distributer near you- then check out to see if there’s any pareve (dairy free) cake mixes or if they can order: http://www.manischewitz.com/retail.shtml

http://www.allergygrocer.com which has an easy-to-use Search feature to find products free of the allergens you need to avoid. I didn’t realize that there were so many cake mixes, cookie mixes, etc., that are available to moms/kids who are able to add just 1 or 2 things to the basic TED foods. Check it out! I see Blondies, Gingerbread cookies, and various bread mixes in my near future!

InactiveI just made cupcakes for Alex’s birthday using Pamela’s chocolate cake and Cherrybrook Farms white frosting (using Fleishman’s light margarine). The cake tasted just like regular chocolate cake and the frosting is a little different, but not bad. Both girls really liked them.

InactiveHave you heard of the The Kid-Friendly Food Allergy Cookbook? It’s by Leslie Hammond and Lynne Marie Rominger. I have really enjoyed it’s recipes and the suggestions for substitutions. It’s helped me be able to use any recipe and make them dairy-free. I’ve just started soy-free, but I’m pretty sure I can adapt that way too. The book doesn’t have soy as one of it’s “allergies”, but I’m hoping to find one of those too… Hope the party went well! Sorry I didn’t see this before!
