InactiveHello, I have been on this site before, but it’s been a while. I have had 2 kids with reflux since birth, and they still have it. Both have been on prevacid for a long time, 1 slept on a tucker sling/wedge. I got a lot of info from this forum and you all really helped me out. I’m asking a question about a friends baby. He was born at 32 weeks gestation, so obviously a premie. He is now a year old (will actually turn a year this weekend). He at one point had to be on a “sensative” formula because he was spitting up a lot and such. He is on regular formula now, and some baby food.
My friend called me today telling me she hasn’t slept in 3 weeks Her son wakes up every hour crying, like in pain. He hasn’t been doing this before but doesn’t sleep through the night either. She tried to let him cry it out, but he cried for 2 hours. The only time he stops crying is when she picks him up/holds him. As soon as she lays him down he cries again. She did JUST introduce milk to him a few days ago, but stopped after the first day, so sounds like maybe milk/lactose allergy…but I know that milk can make reflux worse. He is a spitter, and I’ve seen him spit and it’s always curdled…which I have learned/heard that is also a sign of sometihng giong on. I know that he is nearly a year, and just now showing signs, but he has always been a spitter. Is it possible that now that he is on more solid foods, which has more acid, it could be making a problem worse that was always there.I have a tucker sling/wedge that I no longer use that I’m going to let her borrow it. I also suggested trying prevacid since you can’t OD on it, and it won’t hurt him. I realize he is a year, and this just started, but given his preemie history, history of spitting, and now this…sounds like reflux.I said somethign to her around other friens of hers who said that reflux wouldn’t start at a year, but I tried to explain to them he could have always had it, but now that he is on different/more foods it could be getting worse…they all try to say that he is just clingy and such….it really sounds like reflux to me, other than starting at a year, but maybe it’s just now past the point of managable for him. And she did take him off the milk, he’s been off that for about 4 days nowWhat do you all think ?scuby20 2011-05-17 07:35:15 May 17, 2011 at 10:20 pm #68388Anonymous
InactiveMy oldest son,, not 100% sure if he had some reflux but starting to think he did after having my second son and going through it 10 times worse.. My oldest son was on sensitive formula.. He could not tolerate milk at all.. We gave him rice milk and about 6 months later he started to drink regular 2% milk just fine. We have to watch how much he has because then he does have problems with vomiting still to this day and he is 2. Just a thought.. Haven’t gotten that far with my youngest, he is 5 1/2 months.. FYI they also make toddler formula that has more nutrition in it until able to get on milk.. My son was never able to go to regular formula though..

KeymasterI would cut milk out from diet, including IN foods (read ingredients)…give that a good two weeks and see if things improve?
