I think Seth is ready to have his first haircut! It is getting a little long over his ears and down his neck. Have most of you had luck going to a normal shop or would you recommend one of those kiddie cut places? Also, any suggestions to help it go more smoothly? He is not one to sit still…..
April 26, 2006 at 1:29 pm #6885AnonymousInactiveHi Tiffany! Liza was scared to death at her first haircut and like Seth, she was not one to sit still. We got through it by offering her a lollipop to suck on while she was getting her haircut. It was a great distraction and she did well. We live in a small town; so no kid’s shops here. I just called around the different shops and asked if there were any stylists who liked to work with children. I found one who said she loved kids, so that’s where we went! It was fine. Liza cried a little and she was squirmy, but the lollipop helped.
April 26, 2006 at 1:36 pm #6887AnonymousInactiveWe had Isaac’s hair cut for the first time when he was around 7 months old at cookie cutters hair salon. They put on a video on a tv right in front of them and that really helps to distract them. I hope it goes smoothly!
April 26, 2006 at 2:11 pm #6892AnonymousInactiveHow exciting, Tiffany! Owen still has a long way to go before he’ll need a haircut – between being blonde and not having much he still looks bald in pictures sometimes!
So, we don’t know anything from experience but my sister has brought her daughter to snipits since she was really young. They even got this little picture with a piece of her hair in a bag for them to frame or just save. It’s so cute – the picture is of her in the chair getting the hair cut and then the hair is right there. I don’t know if it cost a lot but she’s brought her back there every time and is now almost 3 years old.
Good luck – let us know how it goes!
April 26, 2006 at 2:42 pm #6893AnonymousInactiveThanks guys!
Laura, we do have a snip its near by- that was one place I was considering. Seth never had much hair until recently either. His is blonde too which is really strange since DH and I both have dark hair. People are all the time asking where he gets the blonde hair and blue eyes and DH will say the mailman!
April 26, 2006 at 2:52 pm #6894AnonymousInactiveOh my goodness – I think Owen and Seth are separated at birth because Pat and I both have dark hair too! Pat did have really light blonde hair when he was a little boy though so at least we know it is in Owen’s genes anyway. He’s got blue eyes too and Pat and I both have hazel/green eyes so those must have come from his grandmother. People ask me about it all the time though too!
Good luck with Snip its – if you end up going there let me know how it goes. It looks like there are lots of distractions there which is good. Are they pricey do you know?
April 26, 2006 at 3:05 pm #6895AnonymousInactiveLaura, I’ll definitely keep you posted. I am not sure if they are pricey or not. I was wondering that myself. The one near us is in an upscale shopping area but does look neat on line. I checked too for the one that Sarah recomended above but we do not have a cookie cutters here in Georgia so snip its may be it!
I don’t know if you ever visit the Gerdlings page but here are some pics of Seth if you want to see if he and Owen really are long lost twins….. his hair is a little lighter now though, probably from us being outside all the time. I need to post some current ones.
April 26, 2006 at 3:27 pm #6897AnonymousInactiveWe took my older one to Melonhead’s- a kids salon here. It didn’t stop her from crying but it was cute. They took her picture and gave me a certificate for her baby book which was sweet. Since then, the TV has been a great distraction and she doesn’t fuss anymore. Good luck! BTW, how did you post pictures? I often think it would be nice to see what everyone looks like.
April 26, 2006 at 9:53 pm #6950AnonymousInactiveI took Hailey to my regular stylist and she charged me only $5 for a haircut. She did a great job, I sat on the chair with Hailey on my lap. My stylist gave her something to hold and that made her happy. I also took a camera and a baggie for a little hair! It was really fun, everyone in the salon was clapping and everything. It went a lot better than I thought it would. I’m getting ready to take Hailey for her 3rd cut!
April 27, 2006 at 9:33 am #6974AnonymousInactiveThanks again everyone. I’ll definitely update how it goes. We may hold off a couple of more weeks though to make sure we get more bang for our buck (no pun intended!).
Lori, Janice made a Little Gerdlings website where we can share pictures of our little ones. Several of us have pictures out there. I will bump that post for you. Hope you can add some. I love putting faces with names too!

I put a video in to distract her and cut it while sitting on the living room floor. For her second cut, she really needed to have her bangs cut, and I’m just not that brave. So, we took her to a regular hair place. She loved the chair at first, but flipped out when they started cutting. We actually didn’t get to finish the hair cut because she was an absolute mess at the end. Fortunately, it was the back, so I could clean it up at home. Dh also had his hair cut at the same time, and she absolutely freaked out when she saw them cutting his hair as well. She ended up coming down with a virus that night, so we think that some of her behavior was due to illness. Just in case, I think that we’re going to try a kiddie place for hair cut number three.
May 30, 2006 at 11:00 am #8756AnonymousInactiveJust wanted to update that we finally took Seth to get his haircut over the weekend. We ended up going to Snip Its and he did great!!They gave me some bubbles to blow for him and they had some cartoons on for him to watch. The whole hair cut only took about 5 minutes if that. He looks like such a big boy now! It was 15.99 and they gave us a certificate and he got a prize (sticker) at the end. Not bad!! You could also have them take your pic for 3.00 more but we just took our own camera.

May 30, 2006 at 1:17 pm #8772AnonymousInactiveGreat news! I wish we had a place like that around here. My girls get a lollipop and that keeps them happy, but cartoons and bubbles would make their day!
May 30, 2006 at 4:35 pm #8800AnonymousInactiveI’m glad that it went so well!!!
