Inactiveis this the time you usually transition to 2 bottles? morning and night? or keep with the three bottles. 2 is easier.. i would have to feed him more though.. but just want to make sure that this is what “most babies do”.
thanks!

InactiveGood question. I want to know this too. I just went to Gabby’s pediatrician to rule out an ear infection. She has been soooo fussy and not really interested in eating lately. I really think it’s teething because she is chewing on EVERYTHING.
Anyways, I told the pedi that Gabby really doesn’t seem to want a third bottle anymore. She used to take 18 oz from the bottle and about 4 -5 more from the sippy cup. Now she takes a slight bit more from the sippy during the day probably 6oz and rejects one of her other bottles. The doc said 18 oz is fine for her as long as she’s eating plenty of solids. Gabby is only 19lbs though, so I’m not sure if it’s enough for a larger child.

InactiveI think that when Griffin was 1 we went to mid morning bottle and bedtime bottle. If they had trouble with him at daycare and he really needed one in the afternoon, he had three. We eliminated the bottle at 15 months. He was your everyday average child though.
I think if weight and calories are an issue for you, cont with three and wean down later. I’m definatley not going to worry about when I get rid of the bottle with Owen b/c he is just soooooo small! I know you’ve mentioned before worrying about getting all the stuff a baby “needs” into Shane, so if it’s a worry, I would cont with the three bottles. If he’s good with a sippy cup just constantly keep offering that througout the day, I was just REALLY bad about remembering to offer it to Griffin b/c I was used to him getting that 6 oz or so from the bottle!
I think you’re on the right track, and don’t worry about what other babies are doing! Every baby is so so different and especially Shane’s special dietary needs— he’s going to be a little different anyway!

Inactivethe thing is is that i started giving him more goats milk in his rice milk bottle.. i am thinking of doing all goats. and he wants 8 ounces at a time in his bottle. soo 3 times 8 is 24 and i think that is too much for his age of milk right?

InactiveHi Lauren,
I think you’d be okay with just two bottles. I nursed mine, but I think at that age they were just nursing at bedtime and the rest they got with a sippy cup.June 22, 2007 at 2:49 pm #37614Anonymous
InactiveMy girls were on two bottles at a year. Myles was on one (but he was unique in that he gave up the bottle at 7 mos. except for that one bedtime bottle).
I think I read that at one year 12-16 ounces of milk is enough as long as they are eating solids and other calcium rich foods. Does he drink from a sippy? He’ll probably need more fluid than the two bottles.

Inactivewell he doesnt really like the sippy. he will take a couple sip with his meal.. but thats it really
i am mixing rice and goats milk.. do you guys think its o.k to mix it? i ask this because than i can still do 3 bottles.. half rice so that he doesnt get too much whole milk and get full. but if i do 2 bottles i would do all goats for the 8 ounces

InactiveAlex is still taking 4 bottles most days (7 oz). Recently she’s starting shoving the bottle away after drinking about 4 oz, so I think she’s sort of self-weaning. I’ve been trying to give her soy milk in a sippy cup, but she’s not at all interested. She loves water in a sippy cup (this is fairly recent), but she literally throws the soy milk away from her. Next week is her tube surgery and my last week of work for the school year. After that I’m going to go ahead and cut back to 3 bottles and try soy yogurt.

InactiveThat’s hard when they don’t like a sippy cup. Have you tried the ones with a more “bottle-like” spout? The Nubby sports sipper is a pretty good one. Anyway, good luck with it. Is he seeming to tolerate some goat’s milk if you mix it with the rice?

Inactiveyep.. he seems fine with the mix.. i have actually been upping the goats and he seems o.k .. restless sleep still.. but not any other signs of intoelrance.
and we do use the nubys , its the ONLY one he has ever sucked from. he is just a baba boy… and when i breastfed he was such a boob boy!

InactiveThat’s good that he’s tolerating some goat’s milk. I’m sure it’s nice not having to worry about fats and proteins, etc. I recently tried to wean Bryce from breastmilk to straight goat’s milk formula, but he couldn’t tolerate 100% goat’s! I was surprised since he always did so well fortifying with it. So anyway, now he’s on 1/3 goat’s milk formula and 2/3 regular formula, then we still give him 2 bottles worth of breastmilk.
So anyway, I guess sometimes they just can’t tolerate 100%. It sounds like Shane’s doing well with the increase though, so hopefully he’ll be able to eventually.

Inactiveohh thats so strange! he can do cow milk formula but not goats milk?? strange
. what happens when you increased it??June 22, 2007 at 5:54 pm #37638Anonymous
Inactiveohh and heres something strange from our side .. he CANT do goats yogurt! but can do goat milk.. haha. usually its the other way around too.

InactiveOh.. sorry, the formula Bryce is on is Goodstart Soy. He couldn’t tolerate the milk-based formula (it wasn’t as bad as the goat’s but he still had problems). I kind of think he doesn’t tolerate 100% goat’s because it has SO much protein and his system is so sensitive. When we tried all goat’s milk he was up screaming all night. Then we tried the milk-based and he was up at night, but it was better. With soy he was SO much better. So anyway, luckily he can tolerate some goat’s. I haven’t tried increasing it anymore. Bryce has had issues with iron, so I feel better about him being on some iron-fortified formula especially since he doesn’t eat any solids (or not much). Sorry for rambling!

That is weird that he can’t tolerate the goat’s yogurt. I haven’t even tried that with Bryce. He tolerates regular yogurt fine though.

Keymasterfill a sippy with water & have it available to him all the time as he goes about his day- playing, at his high chair, etc etc
that’s what I did w/ jonah & am doing with ari
Ari sips a little her & there throughout the day & it really adds up…
I have a 2 handled nuby flip top straw cup- I love Nubys! they didn’t have ones w/ handles when jonah was Ari’s age…
