Infantreflux.org | 30 mg too much?

So we’ve had another scary night with Ezra, repetitive refluxing that lasts forever, gasping for air, gagging and retching. I have 15 mg prevacid solutabs left over from DD and want to get him started. is 30 mg a day too much for a 2 week old? I know the ped is gonna wanna start him with 15 but the reflux is so bad, I’m paranoid he’s gonna stop breathing in the middle of the night. At the same time though I don’t wanna overdosed him. what do you all think?

I would go by the marci-kids guidelines

for less than 3 months old:

1.5 to 1.75 mg/kg three times per day

ok, so when I work out that math it translates to roughly 24 mg over the course of the day. But prevacid only comes in 15 or 30 mg tabs. and they’re small, how would i divide that up three times a day? would 15 mg 2 times a day be just as effective?

you say you have 15mgs tabs…

so break two (2) of them in half? so that’s four ‘pieces’, w/ each ‘piece’ having 7.5 mgs of prevacid

give 3 pieces, so that’s 22.5mgs a dose, 3 times a day.

try that?

make sure to give on an empty stomach, followed by a ‘meal’ 30 minutes later
