I have a 4 month old that can not stay awake for longer than 1.5 to 1.75 hours at a time. What do your 4 month olds do? How many naps, how long do they nap, how long do they stay awake. How many hours a night do they sleep? My ds sometimes will only nap 1 hour and then 1.5 hours later he is ready to nap again??? All messed up with our naps.
April 27, 2006 at 8:40 pm #7044AnonymousInactiveHe sounds pretty normal for that age. Haden is now 6 months and typically will stay awake for 2 1/2-3 hours and is then ready for a nap. At 4 months he would stay awake for about 2 hours. At that age he would go to bed at 8:00 and sleep till 3:00-take a bottle and then go back down until 7:00. Now, he takes 3 naps a day-one morning, a longer afternoon nap and a catnap around 5:00ish and then to bed at 8:00.
Maybe Marshall’s reflux pain is waking him up. Does he wake up crying? Or is he content when he wakes up? Does he seem like he sleeps peacefully for his naps? I know when Haden’s reflux was not under control he would wake frequently, turn his head from side to side and just not rest comfortably. So even though he was “sleeping” and was never really restful sleep.
I see in your signature FL- is that Florida? Just curious where in Florida- we live in Ft. Myers.
April 27, 2006 at 8:55 pm #7045AnonymousInactiveWe live in Lynn Haven Florida. Right outside of Panama City. Yes he always wakes up from his naps and in the middle of the night crying. I do not think that he has ever woken up happy. I think I can recall one time! Maybe when we get him on the right medicine he will be able to sleep and nap better. I guess the reason he can only stay up about 1.5 hours is because he is not getting the rest that he needs. On good days, he will sleep about 1.5 hours but will wake or be restless twice during that time frame. He goes to bed at 7:00 because he is just so tired from waken up so early from his third nap. He wakes all in the middle of the night, but does not get up until 5:30 or 6:00 in the morning. We also do a feeding at 10:30 or 11:00 at night and I always check to see if he is hungry when he wakes up after that feeding, but he seems satisfied when I give him the paci. The paci could be another problem?
I noticed that Haden is on Zegerid. I am going to a GI specialist and I am going to take all of the info from this forum and from Marci-kids website and make him give me a prescription for it. We have tried Prevacid but has not done anything at all and just made is tummy worse! I think the Zegerid will be better from what I have read from all of the posts.
Thanks for the help. I just love this forum and I am so glad I found it!
April 27, 2006 at 9:18 pm #7055AnonymousInactiveYes, definintely take the marci-kids info with you and make sure you get the right dose, and that it is given three times per day. Prevacid works great for my little guy, but I agree from all I’ve read that Zegerid is the best PPI.
My little guy loves his paci, too. He wakes once or sometimes twice per night for it. My first daughter loved hers, too. I ended up sewing it onto her pajamas because she went through a period at around 1 year of age where she’d wake every two hrs. or more and cry because she couldn’t find it. It drove me nuts! I didn’t get her off that thing until she was 2 1/2!!! So, the paci can definitely cause night time problems, but what can you do?? I’m a wimp so I just give it to Myles even though I know he may end up hooked like Liza was. My middle child gave up the paci on her own at 8 months. I’m hoping Myles will let it go as easily as she did, but for now I figure he’s a baby and baby’s like to suck…it gives them comfort…that’s the way God made them, so just let him have it for now.
Anyway, I hope your GI appointment goes very well and he gives you Zegerid and more improtantly, that he gives you the right dose. Good luck and let us know how it goes.
April 27, 2006 at 10:59 pm #7066AnonymousInactiveohhhhhhhhhhh I wish Aidan would take a paci!! he just screams and gags if i try to give him one. He’ almost 5 months old and is also a seriously weird sleeper, goes down around 7-30 or 8, sometimes sleeps til around 6 sometimes 5 30, wakes up to eat, then goes back to sleep til around ten, because of this the child is literally awaks almost all day long, except for maybe one long nap from either 12-1 or 2-4….
April 28, 2006 at 9:53 am #7072AnonymousInactiveJill, in the long run you will be much better off. When I am frantically trying to wean Myles from his nuk addiction, sick and tired of being awakened at night to give it to him, you’ll have a baby who doesn’t need that “crutch” to soothe himself! I always say when I am pregnant, this ones not getting a nuk…but like I said above, I’m a whimp and I can’t stand to hear my babies cry, so I give in before even giving it a chance.
My Liza slept a little like Aidan. She’d be in bed by 8pm, wake up at 8am, eat, and go back to bed until 9:30 or 10 am. Then she’d take one nap from noon or 1:00 until 2:00 or 3:00, and be up until bedtime.
April 28, 2006 at 10:08 am #7073AnonymousInactiveWhen they wake up early to eat and then go back to bed for a long nap
right away, it’s basically an extension of their night sleep – so they
are packing in all their sleep hours overnight and early morning and
hence are unable to nap much/don’t need much during day. If this is a
problem for you, you can always keep him awake after the first feed and
delay that nap – depends on what works for you.At 4 months, 1.5-2 hours awake time is totally normal.
May 18, 2006 at 2:15 am #8256AnonymousInactiveMy 3 month old has been sleeping all night for about 4-5 weeks now. He goes to bed around 9pm, and sleeps until 6 or 7am. I’m not complaining about that all. It’s just he doesn’t sleep much during the day. He takes 20-30 minutes cat naps every hour or 2. He has reflux, so I’m not sure how much of that is really bothering him since he sleeps all night. Also, I have is bed elevated, but not very much. The head of his bed is sitting on a really fat phone book.
