Does anyone have any ideas for adding fat to the MSPI diet? Seth loves his veggies which is a good thing but he will eat them over anything else and they are not exactely loaded with calories. I do try to add butter to them and add olive oil to pasta but is there anything else to try?

how about rice milk with flax seed oil in it? …or potato milk?

I’m sure you’re doing this already, but avacados? Ally eats them every day and she LOVES them. They’re so mild that you can mix them into things.

Tiffany, we have not tried avocados yet. It’s good to hear that Ally likes them so much. We will definitely give them a try!

I’ve heard that Duocal is ok for MSPI diets. Our nutritionist recommended it for Noah, but I have yet to buy it. Supposidly it does not alter the flavor of the food its being added to.

The other thing I thought of was egg yolk, I don’t know if Seth can have them, but that’s another high-fat food that Ally seems to really like.

Hi Tiffany –

We have the same problem with Owen and have used some of the suggestions that others have given – he’s a big fan of avocado, we add olive oil to his pasta, and scrambled egg yolk is another favorite. We try different kinds of crackers – he likes to eat them himself and some have a pretty high fat content in them. And olives are his go-to, never-fail food. I know – sounds so weird, but for some reason he loves them.

If I can think of anything else I’ll let you know!

if he can eat egg yolk and bread, you can make french toast and cook it (saturate it) in oil and then you can serve it up with blackstrap molasses (full of iron and calcium)…

heck, avocado on french toast sounds yummy to me (I’m weird, LOL)
