So we went to the GI doc yesterday for ella’s post-endoscopy check-up….and i told the doc that i give her 3/4 of a 15mg solutab at night and 1/4 in the morning. He said that I should give her the full 15mg one time a day and that breaking the pill COULD make them less effective….apparently he was told this by the drug reps.
Has anyone heard this? And is giving her 15mg once a day the same as splitting it up?
Breaking the tab did seem to be working….but it was kind of a pain since sometimes in the morning I didn’t have a full 1/2 hour window…so I”m going to try the full tab at night and see if anything changes…if so, then i’ll go back to breaking it up.
I’ve been breaking Myles solutabs since his first dose and it has definitely been working. I’ve read that before (that you shouldn’t break them). It’s probably IDEAL not to, but sometimes you have to to give the proper dose.
I was told that you “lose” the meds along the cut line, if you know what I mean. Those beads get broken and aren’t active, but I don’t think that’s much of the dose. Seems like most babies tend to do better on two, or even three doses rather than one.
Yeah so after one night we’re back to giving it to her twice a day….by 5pm yesterday she was miserable (she was given her once a day dose at about 630pm the day before and wasn’t due for that day’s dose for another hour)….how is it that we can know more than doctors?? boggles the mind….
I think the doctors are told by the drug reps that one a day dosing is
fine because that is fine for adults. But babies metabolize these drugs
MUCH faster than adults and generally need at least 2xday dosing…
