hi im new and a first time mommy
as short as possible… im bf and at 3 weeks we figured out she had mspi after lots of sleepless nights we seemed to get it under control.. slowly see some yellow seedy poops then it started again at very odd times when i was eating nothing but things i had checked over and over…dr put her on zantac saying there was a tiny amount of blood still in there which could be from reflux that was about a month ago seemed to help for like a week or two and now is worse that ever… she has always had green mucus diapers maybe a couple yellow normal looking but not often and not lately… went back to dr last week still has a litte blood she says she doesn..t think allergy cause of no other symptoms like rashes or eczema like with mspi.. now shes on 1.5 ml and it doesnt seem to be helping like before… i went on a diet of oatmeal bananas and chixken amd she stopped being in pain … we tried some alimentum this weekend she took to it well but then i addded some honey mustard to my chicken and we got fussy baby again … im determined to bf if i continue will i always have to avoid all food with flavor? or is prevacid a good med where maybe i could go back to eating normal well as normal as i can without milk/soy! i just would like some suggestions i feel like every light at the end of the tunnel disappears as fast as i see it
March 25, 2013 at 9:52 pm #71883hellbenntKeymasterthere is hope! it’s not just bland foods vs. not bland foods- it has to do w/ the PROTEINS in your diet that make their way into your baby’s system and how she reacts to the PROTEINS. the most common ones are milk & soy (not lactose, that’s milk *sugar* – but milk PROTEIN and soy protein – but there are other PROTEINS that your baby may be reacting to in your diet)
Reasons a breastfeeding mother might think her baby is reacting to something in her milk:
*poop that is not ‘normal’ mustardy yellow, seedy breastfed baby poop
*mucous in poop; mucous can look like: snot, jelly, cottage cheese, stringy like the inside of a banana
*foul-smelling poop
*stinky, foul-smelling painful gas
*straining and grunting to poop and, when baby finally does poop, it’s soft
the TED (Total Elimination Diet) takes two weeks and then you start adding foods in to see what you CANeat.
Research all you can! You are your baby’s best advocate!

March 26, 2013 at 10:17 am #71887AnonymousInactiveHi! I don’t really have anything to add, Laura pretty much said it all!! I just wanted to offer encouragement!!! You’re doing great!
I know how tough it can be in the beginning especially when you feel like you can’t eat anything! I was able to use some of the suggestions and recipes from the TED section of this forum, definitely check that out.
Otherwise, hang in there!!
March 26, 2013 at 11:24 am #71891AnonymousInactiveIf you are determined to breastfeed (which I think is wonderful) then you could try taking a supplement of digestive enzymes and probiotics. My boys suffered badly from digestive problems and this is what we found to help them the most. I wish I had more time to post here but for now I will suggest that you read my blog.
There’s a lot info on there but for sure read the home page http://help4acidreflux.wordpress.com
and this page…

March 26, 2013 at 12:03 pm #71893AnonymousInactivethanks laura a lot of good info luckily she just eats a lot like clustwr feeding when she doesnt feel good if its really bad she will cry and pull away a bunch… yes i want to breastfeed definetly check out the blog and rachel im trying ill take a look at the ted section ive seen a real differenfe in how much i pump now due to lack of calories π
March 26, 2013 at 12:10 pm #71894hellbenntKeymasterdrink a LOT of water & eat lots of GOOD FATS
baby on the boob is a lot more efficient than a pump- baby is getting more than what you can pump (when breastfeeding)
read all the links (I know it’s a lot! they’ll help you)
& focus on what you CAN eat
March 27, 2013 at 2:38 am #71899AnonymousInactiveI just signed up with “Nature Box”. I don’t know if they’re any good but they might be worth a try to help with the starvation feeling. They send out different healthy snacks every month. They say they are working on making more snacks to fit different dietary needs. So if you tell them what foods you need to avoid, they can send snacks accordingly. I know how hard it is to try avoid foods when you’re nursing. π http://www.naturebox.com/
April 2, 2013 at 3:18 am #71917AnonymousInactivehelloo, sorry it has taken so long to reply busy busy! so update now is i am on a “total” total elimination so im eating just the basics turkey squash pears and hot cereal and have to say spending 40 dollars on 3 days worth of food is insane… anything for my baby! that started two days ago and its even harder than before but now im just making sure i have plenty of food in the house and made so i dont cheat and have seen an improvment. but i have a question about the probiotics i bought a store brand acidophilus? wanting to start those next week but im worried about the getting worse before better and she has easter pictures tuesday i dont want a crabby baby so waiting for that… how long is the worse before better stage? and heads up some of those links you ladies sent very helpful by the way but some didnt work. anyways hope everyones good!
April 2, 2013 at 10:01 am #71920AnonymousInactiveDon’t know why that Nature Box link won’t work. π But I believe you’ll find it if you search “Nature Box”.
Probiotics… acidophilus is just one strain of probiotic so you may not even have bad days with it. But you also may not see any improvement with them either. I recommend getting a brand that has at least 10 strains in it. But beings you have the acidophilus, then I would certainly start with it and see what happens. If it doesn’t seem to be helping after 2 weeks then I would consider getting something different.
Also the acidophilus doesn’t contain any digestive enzymes. When first taking digestive enzymes they will break down undigested food (which of course is good) and the only way then to rid of it is gas.
The brand we use (Digestive Health sold by Core Health Products) contains 13 strains of probiotics, over 20 types of enzymes, prebiotics, and several soothing herbs for the gut. So the temporary negative side effects from this will most likely be greater than just taking one strain of probiotic. But at the same time they will probably be more beneficial.
As a general rule for a baby, I think that IF there are bad days then it would only be for 2 or 3 days. The older the child, the longer it might be. My sister who is in her twenties said she had diarrhea for almost a month when first taking them but she was a person who had struggled with BAD constipation all her life. Now she is “normal”. π
My children never had any bad days when taking the Digestive Health but here you can read what one mom said about the bad days… http://help4acidreflux.wordpress.com/micaelas-story/
April 2, 2013 at 10:45 am #71923AnonymousInactivethe nature box link worked it was dr sears links mostly… im not too into the nature box cause from what i saw i couldnt choose my snacks? so i cant do that being on ted anyways. yeah i juat bought store brand cause were in a hard place spending so much on food right now. whats the link to the probiotic you use is it soy and dairy free? the probiotic i bought says it has eleven different strains so we will see!
April 2, 2013 at 12:09 pm #71924AnonymousInactivehttp://www.corehealthproducts.com/products/digestive?
The product is soy and dairy free although one of the probiotics is grown on dairy. Many babies (including mine) that couldn’t/can’t tolerate dairy or soy have done great with the Digestive Health.
That is good that your probiotic has 11 strains. π
