Hi Sabrina! I knew my daughter had a problem with digesting milk, she couldn’t even handle breastmilk. She was sooo gassy, it hurt her stomach so bad. She had major blowouts that were slimy, like mucous. Also, at times there were black peices in the stools, that turned out to be blood. The gi doc did a quick swap of her behind and pressed it on a peice of paper that detects blood right in the office. The intestines were inflammed and needed to heal which takes a couple wekks. It took until day # 6 to notice a difference in the stools when we started neocate. Also, neocate is thinner that alimnentum so we had to thicken with simply thick and beechnut oatmeal. It also turns the stools black and tar like. Many babies get constipated, especially the first week, so ask for some lactulose (stool softener/laxitive). Wish I would have know that when dd started it. It was pretty bad.
If you think he would do better on neocate, ask your gi for a couple of cans to get you started. Then mix the 2 forumulas together for a while until your just using neocate. Babies don’t really like the taste of it at first, but they have a new formula now so it doesn’t smell as bad as the old cans did. Good luck!
