InactiveWe saw the ped gi today for the first time and it was a huge success. They upped ds prevacid and also feel he has mspi by all of his symptoms so they told us to switch to Alimentum. This is where the problem lies. he is refusing to take any of it. he will guzzle down his old stuff but is absolutely refusing the alimentum. Any suggestions? I have a call back in to the doc but thought you ladies may have suggestions.
Thanks

Keymasterswitch slowly- ounce by ounce….make a bottle of the old and add one ounce alimentum. then soon add 2 ounces, etc until you’re at all alumentum…

InactiveAgree with Laura. Also, are you using the powder or the RTF? Marisa
MUCH prefers the taste of the RTF – it smells a bit better too.Glad you had a good appointment!

InactiveI just bought the powder because that is all that they had. I was afraid to do the switch so slowly since he has some blood in his stools but I guess it would really only be a few bottles. How long does the switch usually take?
I felt horrible when they said they found blood in his stool. My poor little man. They also said it sounds like he has Sandifer’s too.

InactiveKeep trying slowly with the powder then and if he still refuses then
switch to the Ready to Feed? My DD also tolerates the RTF much better
for some reason – but that can change child by child. Not sure how long
– we were able to switch cold turkey – DD used to be a comfort eater
and at that time would suck anything down.Once they get the pain under control from the formula and upped meds,
the Sandifer’s symptoms should go away. Hope he feels better soon.March 31, 2006 at 4:13 pm #5069Anonymous
InactiveI agree with Laura, I’ve heard people use that same method to transition babies to whole milk from formula (those who aren’t allergic of course) – they do half milk, half formula.

InactiveI was just told by a mother who uses the RTF that it is made differently then the powder( it’s the only formula that is) and that’s why some many babies do better on the RTF.
Just an FYI

InactiveIt usually takes us about 4 days to switch formulas though it seems to be longer as he has gotten older! I would say just keep trying as he will get hungry enough to eat it (i know that sounds mean but it is really true)

InactiveThanks for the suggestions ladies. His bedtime bottle he took a full 8 ounces and it was half and half, then his midnight bottle and 5 am bottle it was the same thing and then he just took another bottle and it was a full 7 ounces with 4 new and 3 old. So it look like we are on the right road.
