InactiveHi ladies,
I go to my first pediatrician’s appt tomorrow. My little guy is 4 1/2 months and has bad reflux. I got his dose of Omeprazole up to 20 mg a day and I have a note from Dr. Phillips to up it to 30. I will give that to the ped but I have a question about allergies/intolerances. My husband has really bad food allergies and GERD. My little guy has green, very liquid poop which sometimes has mucous. I went off milk and soy for a number of weeks, but things did not really improve. Maybe I need to do a total elimination diet, although I really do not want to do that. Should I ask to have my baby tested for allergies? I understand intolerances don’t show up, but is it possible that he might have an allergy to something. We are testing for lactose intolerance, but to be frank it is hard to get enough poo to get a sample since it absorbs into his diaper.Any suggestions?January 4, 2009 at 10:03 am #60048Anonymous
InactiveOh, I forgot to mention that on dec 26th, there was blood in his diaper.

InactiveI couldn’t convince my ped to do any allergy testing until my oldest was 16 months old. I really wish that I’d done it earlier. I had cut milk and soy out of my doctor, but her other allergies never occurred to me. I ended up giving up on breastfeeding, but I probably could have kept going if I’d realized that wheat and apples were such a big deal.
So, I would try to get them to do testing. With my younger dd they did RAST blood testing when she was 9 months old and we discovered a milk allergy. She’s outgrown it now, and I think that the early discovery is a major reason.January 4, 2009 at 7:46 pm #60060hellbennt
Keymasterpersonally I would do the elimination diet to see if clearing everything out for a good 2 weeks improves the stools- if they improve, then you will know it’s something you have been eating…if they don’t improve, cut out rice, too, for a week and see what happens…Sheri’s allergy/intolerance explanation; https://www.infantreflux.org/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=10223&PID=87638#87638Another Sheri explanation- intolerance/allergy post:
