InactiveWe had our allergist appt and everything was encouraging. Ian tested negative again to everything. We tried (again) Milk, Soy, but then added testing on fish, salmon, and egg. She wants us to try Egg and then Milk. I’m terrified about Milk but she said we can always stop if we have an issue. So with starting egg, she says she wants us to begin by serving it in baked goods first-like cookies, cake, etc. Trial for two weeks. Fresh egg-like french toast or scrambled egg -not until 18 months. Question is this-where do I find baked goods like cookies without milk in them?? Anyone have a good recipe? Or anyone start their egg trial differently (just curious). Milk trial to begin after this starts with baked goods, butter, yogurt, cheese, milk formula, then milk. Slow, slow, slow. We are to be patient with fussiness during trial but watch stools for anything funky.
Cross your fingers!!

KeymasterI have advice, lol

there’s a link on the ‘main’ mspi page (I think it’s stickied? the mspi page I mean)
about pareve foods
ok here it is:
1rst- this explains about pareve (at least it should- ask me more if it doesn’t
) – scroll dwon to the purple post
info about labels (hidden dairy, eggs, & more): https://www.infantreflux.org/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=1292&a mp;a mp;a mp;a mp;a mp;a mp;a mp;a mp;a mp;a mp;a mp;a mp;a mp;a mp;a mp;a mp;KW=parve then, you can check to find foods that are pareve– there’s a link to a search engine to find pareve foods, in the post from the link above

InactiveHere’s a good milk free recipe. Actually I think most cookie recipes have no milk. Good luck with the trialing!
Banana Oatmeal Cookies
1/2 cup white sugar
1/2 cup margarine
1 egg
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 cup whole wheat flour
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 1/2 ripe bananas, mashed
1 cups rolled oats
Preheat oven to 375 degrees F. In a bowl, cream butter and sugar together until smooth. Stir in
the egg and vanilla. Stir in dry ingredients, then add the mashed bananas & rolled oats; mix until well blended. Drop dough by rounded spoonfuls onto ungreased cookie sheets. Bake for
10 to 12 min.Bryce’sMom2006-11-15 1:15:58

InactiveTracy,
That’s good news that he tested negative.
Good luck with the food trials.

InactiveThanks all.
Heather-yum to the recipe! I will try this weekend. What a fun trial for Ian-cookies!! All the recipes I found that were milk free were egg free as well. An allergy thing.
Hellbennt-Thanks about Parve too. Yes, I’m throughly aware of the labels (we saw an allergy nutritionist who explained all) but the problem is they say K and a D to indicate Dairy but they don’t specify if egg is in there. It also means it could have just been processed on the same line so it wouldn’t really be an egg trial per se. But thanks for thinking!

KeymasterI thought you were looking for just milk-free at the moment, as you will be trying egg baked in things- that’s why I wrote about pareve-
you can find milk free via pareve- there are different ‘marks’ of pareve to look for.
From the link I gave, I’m copying & pasting. Maybe this can help others, too
.1)if you inspect packaging for a ‘Pareve mark’, then it’s dairy free (not soy free) and meat free! Do not just look for the letter ‘P’ as in a capital ‘P’ – look for the whole word or a lower case p: Products with the word “pareve” written out on a label, or the designation p or p are acceptable. If you only see a “U” or “K”, but not the word pareve, then there is no guarantee that the food does not contain dairy ingredients. http://kosherkooking.com/What%20is%20Kosher/pareve%20food.ht m
2)
pa·re·ve (pä
r
-v
) also par·ve (pär
v
) The adjective ‘pareve’ means that the food item does not contain dairy or meat ingredients, and it was not processed with heat on dairy or meat equipment. Pareve foods are neutral and may be eaten with meat or dairy foods. To ease identification of dairy products (like chocolate, which may or may not contain milk), a “D” or the word “Dairy” accompanies the hechsher [stamp/mark on packaging]. Products which don’t contain milk but are made on machinery that was previously used with milk may have “DE” or Dairy Equipment accompanying the hechsher [stamp/mark on packaging]. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hechsher
3)
OU policy is that dairy or meat items are labeled OU-D and OU Dairy or OU Meat respectively.
An item that is labeled OU without a suffix can be assumed to be pareve. Nonetheless, we recommend checking the ingredients listed on the label, since on rare occasions, the OU-D is inadvertently omitted.
Here is a search engine to find pareve OU marked brands- just type ‘pareve’ under keyword: http://oukosher.org/index.php/products/index
4)
Scroll down for some interesting Pareve meals!

InactiveThis might be a silly thing to suggest, but what about egg noodles? I don’t know the ingredients off hand (except I would assume eggs-haha!) but I know most plain pasta doesn’t have milk in it and since you cook the pasta…just a thought?

InactiveEgg noodles-perfect! Just looked up the ingredients. Very exciting!! Thank you:)

InactiveGood luck! Keep us posted on how it is going. I know that eggs used to bother Brianna, and I was so excited this last time around when I gave them to her and she just couldn’t stop eating them, she loved them so much AND, best of all, no more problems digesting them. 🙂
