InactiveSo glad the little angel is starting to do better!!!
Is she on any meds for the reflux or do they think it is only a food issue??
Hope things continue to improve, you all deserve a break!

InactiveAs far as we know she doesn’t have reflux. She has had lots of
tests and they have diagnosed her with “slick gut” or otherwise
known as malabsorption syndrome of the small intestine.I get her weighed tomorrow. She weighed 8 lbs. 8 oz. 2 weeks ago
and just after being on the Neocate/Allimentum mix for 1 week she
gained 1 lb. by this past Fri.!!So I’m really anxious to see what she weighs tomorrow. She has been on straight Neocate since Sat.
Thanks for all your thoughts!

InactiveAddy has gained l9 oz. in l3 days since we started giving her Neocate.
She has developed a minor problem while on the Neocate…her bottom is
breaking out. Even her urine makes her break out now. We
take her for her 4 months shots on Mon. and will have the Dr. look at
the rash and see if there’s some special ointment for it. The
Desitin doesn’t seem to be doing the job.Even her drools now will break out her chin since being on the Neocate.
But, certainly having the rash is much better than not gaining weight.
Hopefully we’ll come up with a solution for the rash and all will continue going well.
She’s still having numerous dirty diapers each day, but they don’t seem
to have as much liquid in them. So at least she’s not losing alot
of water weight and being in danger of dehydration. Thanks for all your support.
Take Care.

InactiveI’m glad to hear she’s gaing weight, but that’s too bad about the rash. I hope the doctor has some ideas about what it could be and how to get rid of it.

InactiveI’m so glad to hear she is finally gaining and that the diarrhea is lessening! I have been thinking of you, and wondering how your granddaughter was doing.
As a pharmacist, I might be able to relay a little info about the rash. Hopefully the doctor can give you something to help clear it up, likely a combination of Canesten and Hydrocortisone. That will help clear up any yeast and help reduce the redness and irritation. In order to help prevent further rashes, you could use any kind of barrier cream after a diaper change. Barrier creams are often used on babies, or on people with colostomies, in order to protect the skin from irritation due to urine, feces, or other fluids. I recommend asking your doctor or pharmacist first before choosing a cream, and inquire if it could also be used on her chin/cheeks as well (it will depend on the ingredients). Barrier creams are a preventative however, and won’t clear up an existing rash.
Thanks so much for keeping us updated!

InactiveIs all rashes that babies get on their babies, yeast related?
Do you know what causes it?
I’m sure that the Dr. will leave her on the Neocate and just treat her for the rash since she’s doing so much better on it.
She did have 7 dirty diapers today, but they didn’t have much in
them. I’m sure it will take several more weeks until we see a
huge difference in the dirty diapers. So great seeing her little
legs getting some fat on them. And we can actually tell the
difference between her little wrists and upper arms now…they use to
be all the same size. And she use to be so pasty white, but now her little fingers and all actually have some color to them!!
Thanks again.
Sending healthy thoughts to everyone!

InactiveGreat pictures – thanks for sharing!
No, not all rashes are yeast related. However, babies with uncontrolled GI problems tend to have an imbalance of yeast in their digestive tract which can often produce a distinctive diaper rash. As well, if a baby has diarrhea, it can flush out a lot of the “good” bacteria that keeps the yeast under control. When that good bacteria is reduced, yeast can start to overgrow, and then produce the distinctive diaper rash. (This can also happen if a baby is on antibiotics) That is why I suspect it may be yeast related in Addy, but it is possible that isn’t the case. The doctor should be able to tell by looking at it. InactiveGreat to hear about the weight gain. Sheri might be able to correct me if I’m wrong but I was told that if it isn’t yeast related some of the creams can actually make the rash worse?

InactiveYes, I see how it could be yeast then. Seems as if we make 2
steps forward and 1 back. Yesterday like I said we had 7 dirty
diapers. I thought once she has peed through the diaper on me.But, today I now think it was actually poop. I was just now
changing one dirty diaper and about that time the diaper got
flooded…if I hadn’t seen it with my own eyes as to where it was
coming from, I would have sworn it was pee…but, unfortunately it’s
not. But, after she had so many dirty diapers at my house yesterday and now
knowing that the one I thought she had peed through was actually
nothing, but watery poop…my daughter called all excited yesterday
evening saying that the diaper she changed was really thick…..geez,
one extreme to the other. And before the Neocate she was waking up at least 3 times a
night. The past 2 nights she has gone to sleep at 10:30 p.m. and
not gotten up until 6:30 a.m.But, by 1:30 today I’ve changed NINE dirty diapers and she’s drank 25
oz. of formula. It’s like she’s starving, and she’s not spit up
one time. Seems like it’s coming out the other end instead.Looking forward to your thoughts.
Thanks.
p.s. glad you enjoyed the photos.

Thank you for the link to the article. I definitely think that’s
what she has. Because the diaper area doesn’t even have a rash
except for a couple of tiny red bumps, but on her outer thighs where
the diaper doesn’t even touch there’s several hard red bumps.Geez, this child is going to make me have to color my hair on a weekly basis, instead of bi-monthly……<sigh>
I’m tooooooooooooooooooooo O L D for this!

InactiveYou sound like the best granny in the world
…your daughter is lucky to have you helping her out like this. My mum lives a long way away and there where times early on that I would have loved her help (only a mum can help in the right way
).Ya for solid poo!
April 13, 2007 at 9:09 pm #30466Anonymous
InactiveOh, I’m far from being the best Granny or anything else for that matter.
But, you do what you can for your children and grandturds!
Unfortunately, we’ve not reached the “solid poo” yet…in fact today we
have the opposite problem……complete liquid poo….ugh.It’s certainly hard to go through life’s tests alone. We all need help sometimes.
Today was a LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG day…
Thanks for all your kind posts, good thoughts and well wishes.
Take Care.
