Inactivehi everyone (again)!
has anyone done almond milk and or know much about it?! i am thinking of just doing that instead of the soy/rice mixture. one reason is because i am “scared” of the soy i guess you can say. and two just incase soy ends up bothering him. BUT i dont know much about it?!
what is it low on (if anything) is my big question.
and i do give him almond butter…and no rash or breathing problems.. so i guess he can do almonds.. my question is ” would an intolerance to almonds come out in GI ways? like the dairy/soy?? like, should i be thinking it is attributing to his reflux or is it safe to switch to??

Inactivealmonds are not part of the allergenic nut group. i give Trace almond milk sometimes, i think it is more nutritious than rice milk. im not quite sure what its low on, but i cant point you to some people that will know for sure. you can also do a search on the forums. you can go to the life with a babe forum or nutrition and good eating.

Inactivehmm.. shane wont let me really get into that website and figure it out yet. but i did look at almond breeze that my mom has and its VERY low in calories.. and not really any added vitamins. probably simular to rice milks nutrition.
UGH. i just dont know what to put him on!!
i would LOVE to do rice milk but its scary low in fat even though i give him fats.. i am scarred. and i am uncomfortable with soy still.

InactiveSorry, not trying to hijack but Lauren I have quick question, where you find almond butter? I have looked in several stores here and can’t seem to find it. I have been looking in the peanut butter area of the store…would it be somewhere else? Is it only sold at health food stores?

Lauren,
Have you though about trying Goat’s milk? I know many babies who are sensitive to cow’s milk are also senstive to Goat’s milk, but you could always try.

Inactivehi christine,
i have ALWAYS wanted to do it… i think the Allergist scared me out of it! he made me think it was ridiculous to try if he has some sort of allergy to cows milk.. and so i backed down
. I guess i can try it.. i am not really sure what i am looking for though as in signs of him not tolerating it. because he has always had reflux and excema..sooo, am i looking for it to dissapear?? i am not sure..

InactiveHmmm…I can see why you’d be hesitant if the doctor discourages goat’s milk. I worried about this a lot when my kiddos were little too. They all had issues with dairy and I hated the thought of them being on soy, and rice milk didn’t have enough fat and also was very constipating for them. So I definitely understand your dilemna.
What was he on before? Sorry I can’t remember.
Alimentum? May 25, 2007 at 9:00 pm #34514Anonymous
Inactivealimentum until 7 mos. than goodstart.
i guess i am just going to do the soy/rice mix ..for a week or 2.. than if it doesnt clear things up.. i’ll do the goats..
i just hope i can make it through those 2 weeks of soy.. without being sick to my stomach!! its soo hard to ignore things you read

InactiveWhy not stick with Good Start? Or go back to Alimentum (if he’d drink it)?
Would it make you feel any better if you were using Organic Soy?There’s a company that makes Organic baby formula in both milk and soy. I think some of the scare about soy is the way it’s processed, right? Maybe you can call this company and ask them if they use a different process. Here’s their website. I used their milk formula for a few months for Myles. He loved it!!

InactiveWell I hope I don’t start a war here, but Hailey has been drinking soy milk since she was 8 months old at the recommendation of her GI. I knew that there were issues with soy fomula but didn’t realize milk as well. The other thing is that you can find scary things about EVERYTHING you look up on the internet- cow’s milk included!…. I don’t know if that gives you some peace of mind, or not. Good luck whatever you decide.

InactiveI meant to say that she’s been having formula and soy milk in a cup.

Inactivethanks. i picked up the babys only organic soy @ the health food store around the corner.. it does make me feel a bit better;) .. but i also add the vanilla rice milk to it.. so he doesnt get too much soy. and it also makes me feel better because its a toddler formula so i know he is getting better nutrients. the only thing is is that he doesnt seem to like just soy and rice milk.. when i took the goodstart out completely he has not been really drinking it well..
. if there isnt one problem than theres another huh? thanks for your help.. i’ll let ya’ll know how it goes..
