InactiveHi,
Tommy is doing much better on the increased previcid, even with teething, but still has a problem sucking on the bottle after he burps- I’m thinking that this is related to his esophagus hurting. Does that make any sense?
I’ve heard that Aloe Vera juice is good for healingthe esophagus and I’d like to try it- but I don’t know how to administer, how often, what type, etc. Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks, Julie

InactiveThanks Laura!
So I if I understand correctly- just a tsp a few times a day and I can give it maybe between the bottle and the solids? thoughts on timing would be appreciated. We do four bottles a day, 3 solids, and Previcid 3 times a day… so many things to fit in, not to mention naps!

InactiveHi there,
Laura emailed so I’m working on getting back to her…but my chiropractor first suggested the aloe vera and after checking it out I thought we could give it a try. She suggested giving drops throughout the day, anytime I could think of it, or like every hour or two. I just couldn’t keep up with that kind of dosing and we were giving other thigns as well, you know how that goes….so I gave it two – three times a day. Lucas took it for several months and then after a nasty bout of teething this winter I sort of forgot to get him back on. (We had stopped everything but his zegerid for several days and he was refusing to eat, etc. etc. )
You definitely want to use organic and you want a brand that says it must be refrigerated after opening. We use Lily of the Desert, 100% organic, keep refrigerated, etc. And we use the juice, not the gel. I give it in the syringe like a medicine and call it medicine, too. If I’m remembering right, I think I gave it before the ppi drug, just to get it into his stomach before the acid started shutting down. I might be confused….it’s been a blur of sleepless nights for a looooooong time! I’ll have to find my old posts on this. I definitely felt it helped us, and after seeing this post think we should start up again! haha. My chiropractor told me that it’s like the juice of any plant, since it’s plant based, it will go through them like food does, and she didn’t seem concerned about overdosing or anything like that. She also suggested pro-biotics, which I have given Lucas on and off for a while. It also seemed to help, although not enough to be the magic cure-all I was looking for!!
To answer the question of when to give, I would give before eating, but I don’t really know if there’s a philosophy on this out there. It’s going to promote healing of the stomach and esophagus lining, so it seems to me that before eating or meds might make sense? Have you read anything additional on the net about when to give it? I never really found anything saying exactly when to give it, just had my doc’s recommendations of giving it throughout the day in small doses.

InactiveHi Anne,
Thanks so much for the help! I did buy some organic aloe juice to be refrig. but haven’t used yet- I’ll try a syringe of a 1ml before his bottle today and see how that goes… he’s not too fond of the syringe these days! I can completely appreciate the lack of sleep- I think we’re going to attempt sleep training tonight… I’m desperate for sleep and I think he is too!
We have tried to pro-biotics too which worked great for gassiness, but never occured to me to use for the healing- duh!
Thanks again!
