so christian has reflux. the zantak didnt work. maybe he didnt dose him high enough i dont know. we are trying the omeprazole at 5 mg. i have been told thats a very low dose. we go back today at 10 for a check up. he isnt sleeping but an hour at a time at night. maybe on a good night i can get a 3-4 hour stretch from him one time. eating solids seems painfull afterward for him. he is always grunting and straining afterward. he fusses most of the day. i am thinking the reflux is not being helped much. the spitting up is a good bit better from the meds but i can still hear him swalling it back and he has been coughing alot from it coming back up. i am all for an upper gi test if needed. my husband thinks i ammaking a big deal out it since our older son was a happy spitter. no complications. he was always happyand gained weight. Chrisitan has stayed in the 30th percentile for his weight and height and gets very fussy. hubby thinks i am just making this bigger then it needs to be? that i am making it something. does it sound like i am? am i just sleep deprived and making it bigger then it is?

RESEARCH
and be your baby’s ADVOCATE (fight!)December 1, 2009 at 8:04 am #64780AnonymousInactiveJust my opinion but an upper GI won’t tell you anything. It’s only meant to diagnose structural abnormalities, and at his age, you’d know already if that was the issue. An endoscopy will tell you if there is any damage and will allow you to take biopsies for some types of allergies.
Hang in there.December 1, 2009 at 8:58 am #64783AnonymousInactivewe went back to the doctor yesterday and i asked about his dose of omeprazole and he seems to think that we would only need to go higher if he was loosing weight. since he hasnt lost weight then he is doing ok. he thinks this is just a stage now but to give him culturel once a day (that was after i asked about him acting like solids were upsettin his stomach) and the no sleeping and arching his baCk and fighting with me to take most of his bottles was a stage. he said to give him tylenol before bed when i asked why he would wake up crying like he was in pain. why am i just doing him with that for no reason. or no known reason. and i cant give him tylnol every night that cant be good for him? oh and it wont hurt to keep giving him the omeprazole. now he is all the sudden not wanting to think its reflux that is making him upset. any ideas?
December 1, 2009 at 12:11 pm #64793AnonymousInactiveGet a new doc. Or go see a GI specialist, ideally someone recommended by someone on the site. That’s what our doctor said- that it was colic, or mild reflux, until one day the feeding challenge turned into a full blown feeding aversion. And it just happened overnight- first it was fussy eating for almost two months will pulling off and arching, and then one day refusing. They always went back to her not losing weight. But that’s not the issue. Babies should enjoy eating, not hate it. It shouldn’t be a battle. And it’s NOT a phase!!! I wish that our feeding issues had been a phase! It was awful and we were dealing with it for a long time because it wasn’t addressed early on. If your doc won’t listen, find someone who will. Sorry if that doesn’t help too much.
