Am I wrong?????

My ds has severe reflux and he is teething right now. The past three nights he has cried for at least 15 – 20 minutes in his crib before I go and get him. The first time is around 12:00 a.m. and the second time is between 3:00 a.m. and 4:00 a.m. He’s six months old so I know their sleeping patterns change, but lately he has been spitting up so badly that his face will be in it when I check on him. Several moms say don’t go and pick him up when he cries, but I’m worried about his since he’s teething and in pain. Also because of his spitting up. I’m tired from getting up several times a night, but am I wrong for going in and picking him up? I love my little fella! We’re going to see a specialist soon about his reflux problems. Any comments are welcome!

I think if there is any question you baby is still in pain from reflux, that you should go tend to him at night. He is still pretty young. I would at least continue to check on him until you see the specialist and then can be sure the baby is not in pain. Lack of sleep is SOOOO hard, but things should get better after you see the specialist.

I agree. If he is in pain go check on him and if he needs comfort from

mommy, give it!

Thank you!!!! I just needed someone to tell me yes it’s okay to check and love on him. Eventually, he will outgrow the reflux and then he won’t need mommy to hold and love on him during the night. Thank you!

I agree with everyone else- addresss the pain/discomfort- plenty of time for sleep training (of any kind) later on…

I go to Coop at least 5 times each night, I only pick him up if he is awake which is at least 2 times each night so even if they aren’t in pain if they want momma I say go to them, I don’t even let Coop get to the crying phase as that tends to make his reflux worse. Things will get better. Teething throws everything out of whack.

We’re going through a bit of this ourselves. My son is 13 mo. though, and his reflux pain is totally under control. He wakes at about the same times you mentioned but will only cry for about 1 minute (during which I can tell he isn’t refluxing or in pain) and then will go right back to sleep. I haven’t been going in to him.

HOWEVER, if he were in pain, I would. Don’t second guess those mommy instincts. They are usually right on!
