Another question

Here is my last post, this question I have is in addition…

My introduction post has all the details… but here is short version.

At 13 days my son quit breathing long enough to begin to turn “dusky” in his face. This was almost 2 weeks ago. We were in the hospital for 5 days. They ran TONS of tests and all they found was severe reflux/ GERD. He had 6 apnea episodes in the hospital. We were sent home last Sunday on an apnea monitor. We went 9 days without an apnea episode. Well, night before last he had and episode, another yesteray, and now one this morning. My question is this… all of the episodes aside from the one this morning happened shortly after he ate. The one this morning was 3 hours after he ate. Can that still be attributed to the GERD? Can anyone else who has dealt with apnea PLEASE share your experiences with me. My baby will be 4 weeks old on Thursday. He is on Prevacid and Reglan. I know I am probably in for a long struggle, but these episodes have me scared to death. He seems to me and everyone else to be healthy otherwise… Please help…

Here is my addition: I take valtrex and zyrtec everyday and have been told they are safe for breastfeeding. Do you think they could be causing or making his reflux worse??

my son who had apena episodes had them irregardless of when he ate-he would reflux any time time of day- his was a ‘classic’ case of an immature LES- it just opened & stayed opened I suppose, whenever it wanted to & had nothing to do with his eating…

I’m so sorry you’re going through this…

I *think* I would ask for a ph probe? this would measure the reflux episodes and the length of them and how acidic they are.

in the meantime: how much prevacid? what form? how long has he been on it?

do you have any other meds Like zantac around?

He has had a ph probe but it didn’t tell them much about the apnea as he didn’t have an apnea episode during the probe but it did show the reflux. The Upper GI showed SEVERE reflux. His pedi changed his dosage of Prevacid today to 5mgs once a day. He weighs 9 lbs 5 ozs…

state current meds, doses, symptoms (use the word Sandifer if it applies)

make request- flat out- short & sweet

follow up by calling office to say fax was sent

call again later to discuss requests in fax, ie: have you called in the increased prescription yet? THANK YOU

if this doesn’t work, get to a family doctor who will prescribe meds for your baby…

do you have any other meds Like zantac around?

as for the meds you are taking: they most likely are safe if your dr says so?
