Eden has started breathing strangely!! It certainly doesn’t happen all the time or i would have rushed her to a doctor, but she has started taking really deep breaths when she is feeding! It sounds like a kind of wheeze to be honest!! It only ever happens when she breast feeds! Can anyone tell me if this is the reflux or something else?! Should i take her to the doctor anyway, and does this happen to anyone elses little refluxer?!
What is the pace of the breathing like. Does it sound like a very fast paced wheeze? I’m asking because this has happened 3 times with Hailey where her breathing suddenly went very fast (almost like hyperventilating wheeze) after a feed. The first time I actually called 911 because it went on for about 5 minutes. No one has ever found out what this was.
I knew you’d be able to help, Laura!! Yes! It looks like she may have tracheomalacia!! Maybe it has just got more noisy recently!! I have never heard her do this heavy wheezy breathing before!! From what i read here, i’m assuming that unless she stops breathing, it will not be treated!! She doesn’t seem too bothered by it to be honest!! I think it worries me more than her
Ah yes Stridor. Most of the ‘malacias’ (there are 3) will stiffen up on their own by the time they turn 2. My son would only sleep on his stomach until he was 21 months old. I know now that it was because of the tracheomalacia and not his reflux. I think Laryngomalacia is the most common amongst reflux babies NOT born with ea/tef (esophagus not connected to the stomach). My son sounded like a garbage disposal when he’d drink his formula. Others would think he was choking, but he just had to work harder to make sure it went down the right tube.
Hailey also has laryngiomalacia, though I think she’s mostly outgrown it. The stridor is gone for the most part, but occasionally I hear it again if she has to protect her airway during a feeding.
