I was wondering if anyone has made Prevacid or Prilosec compound themselves?
My new GI gave me the recipe to compound OTC prilosec myself with Aspirin free Alka seltzer. I will share it with you if you would like.
fyi- * I have not tried it * I do not know if the Alka seltzer is enough sodium bicarb to keep the stomach acid from destroying the prilosec- lol…so you can try it. He said many parents have had lots of success with it. I took it down just in case, but asked for Zegerid.
I had planned on running it by Dr Phillips at Marci kids before ever trying it.yes, it seemed WAY too simple to be true. My GI said he’s used it for years to treat reflux but we all know how that is. I’ve heard many doctors tell me there is nothing wrong with pharmacies compounding syrups either
I’d def run it by Dr. Phillips first– who knows, maybe he has a better version for you. Sounds odd to me… but it’s just my intuition talking. Our GI told us that he tells people to add their prevacid beads to maalox and give it that way, and that people have had really good success with it! When I tried to argue why you shouldn’t do that, it was like wasting my breath. I honestly don’t think most of these docs knows too much about pharmaceuticals!
Let’s send the “recipe” to Dr. Phillips and see what he says.
