InactiveHello, we just came back from our first visit to the ped GI who confirmed that our baby has a reflux problem. He prescribed Axid…anyone heard of it???

InactiveI think Axid is an H2 Blocker like Zantac.
How did the appointment go?
I hope the Axid helps her to feel better soon.

InactiveMarianna – I was thinking about you today and Ariella!! So the appointment went well? Did they comment on the severity of the reflux? Do you feel that she is on a high enough dosage of axid (never heard of it). Were you able to ask all the questions you wanted? Sorry so many questions…I just know the frustration you’ve felt about it all.
Is axid like a PPI drug? Did they say how long before you would see results? OK, no more questions.

acid is an H2 blocker.

InactiveWell, I’m a little upset with the dr that we went to. I’m assuming he’s good b/c all he did was listen to the symptoms and tell me that he’s heard this story that I’m telling a thousand times before and that it does go away with time but we could treat it with med and prescribed the med that I’ve never heard of. Then he wrote the prescription on a pad that’s not accepted anymore by pharmacies so my hope of giving the med to the baby by dinner is not coming true today. Now I have to deal with calling the place (and the front desk ppl are not nice to say the least) and trying to get them to call the pharmacy b/c I’m not going over there to pick up the Rx and wasting the whole day again. I did ask him about a PPI and he said that her case is not severe enough for a PPI. I asked him if she could be MSPI and he said that doesn’t look like she does. I was like “all righty then” but now with this wrong Rx pad and the prescription that I couldn’t fill, I’m p—ed off to say the least. Good start, huh?

InactiveNot severe enough, eh? I’d say if you have her on axid for a week or so and don’t see any difference…I’d DEMAND a PPI! That was the ONLY thing that helped Sarah. She was started on Zantac (which I just learned is an H2 blocker just like axid) and it did NOTHING for her. We had her on that for 4 months before we got her on a PPI…happily ever after from that point!
I hope you’re able to get the Rx filled SOOOON, and I hope it is enough to help her.
Good luck!

InactiveThat’s really frustrating! The last thing we weary and worried moms want to hear is “I’ve heard this a thousand times” and “she’ll outgrow it.” Sorry your so bored with your profession, Doctor, but my baby needs some help!

I agree with Amy….try the axid for a week or two (at most), but if you don’t see good results, call and demand a PPI, or find a better doctor if you have to.
Good luck.

InactiveOur doctor told us that if the H2 blocker is going to work, you should start to see some improvement within a few days, and a bigger improvement by a week. If you don’t see any changes then I’d look into a PPI. I know how you feel. No one took our case seriously either… kept saying she’d outgrow it, she has colic, she’s fine b/c she’s gaining, blah, blah, blah… I was the one who knew that things weren’t fine though. If this doc doesn’t take your situation seriously and the axid doesn’t help, then maybe you can find another doctor who does. Good luck.
