Apnea and sleeping…Im scared!

Last night my 5 month dd apnea monitor alarmed for the 1st time since I switched her to gel leads (instead of the strap on). When I got to her bed she had rolled on her tummy for the first time. When I arrived at her bedside the alarm wasnt sounding anymore (so she started breathing again). I turned her over and startalled her. I then rewrapped her in her Miracle Blanket and she slept the rest of the night on her back. No alarms. My concern is that I feel sure that this was a real apnea epsiode. Since I didnt have to reposition her leads. We used to have LOTS of false alarms with the strap on leads. Now I am so worried. Can anything be done for apnea? Any advise would be appreciated.

sylvia had obstructive sleep apnea—–after she had her tonsils and adenoids removed, she has become a healthy child with no more apnea.

we got a lot of false alarms from the gels…but you never know until they read the data…it’s so hard!

Hi Shannon,

Any more alarms since you posted? Hopefully not.

Do you have her bed raised? Or, I used to put my sons car seat in the crib so he was sitting more upright. This doesn’t work for all babies, but it’s worth a shot.

You won’t really care about this right now, but take heart that the episodes DO stop eventually. It seems around 9 mths or sooner. So hang in there and remember that she’s on a monitor. The monitor is doing it’s job. That’s what you have it for. You are doing all you can to protect her.

When you go to the doctor with the monitor for a download of information, they can look at it and tell how many of the episodes are real or not.

No more episodes since. She is at a 30degree angle, in a homemade Tucker sling and that particular night I did not fasten the velcro well. Since this night I have been diligent….even at 1am! LOL…. I will have her file downloaded this week. Thanks
