InactiveSarah,
You should know that it’s very important that you only sprinkle the Prevacid granules over an acidic baby food such as apple sauce, plums, or yogurt. Otherwise, the protective coating will be dissolved from the granules and leave the drug unprotected from the stomach acid. Also, it is still important to give it on an empty stomach and 30 minutes before a full meal. The studies that the makers of Prevacid have done themselves has shown that if it is not administered this way then the absorption of the drug can be reduced by as much as 70%.

InactiveThanks Joel, I wrote that we sprinkle it in food, but really the only food she eats is a few bites of applesauce then we wait 30 mins before giving her the bottle.
You said you tried elecare for 3 days, I didn’t even notice a difference with the gas and stomach pain until 5 days, then at around the 2 week mark the gas was completely gone. I stopped the neocate too after a few days the first time we tried it. It’s crazy that the docs. don’t tell you these things take time to work. It would be nice to have something work fast for once though!

KeymasterI would try the Elecare (is this the same as neocate?) again, if you think it’s a milk soy protein issue…
from the mspi link there’s a lot of info about how to decipher what the symptoms are- all kinds of stool issues, from loose stools to constipation, fussiness, restlessness, irritibility, gas, dark circles under the eyes, red ring around the anus- these are all just off the top of my head…

InactiveChristine (ndrose),
Regarding the link that you sent for the sleep book, does this guys method truly offer anything beyond the major authors out there. Does it work? I’m looking for a new option and I think I’ve read every book out there. I’d consider buying if you think it’s really good.

InactiveLori, when I first got the book in the mail and opened it up, I rolled my eyes and thought, o.k., this is a waste of money. But I took it to bed with me that night and found that it was very well organized. I like the book a lot because it gives you at your finger tips the sleep advice of so many different experts. You can compare them, and pick and choose what you like or don’t like. The author’s own plan is a not a CIO plan, which I like very much. I just don’t have the thick skin that some mom’s have for CIO. (Honestly though, I don’t think it’s possible to sleep train a baby without some crying, and his plan does allow for some crying).
The experts he talks about are: Ferber, Sears, Brazelton, Cohen, Cuthbertson & Schevill, Ezzo, Fleiss, Hull, Mindell, Spock and Weissbluth. If you have all of their books, or most, than maybe this book wouldn’t be very helpful for you. I do like the way this guy ties it all together into his own plan.
To be honest with you, my nanny experience trained me to make sure I taught my babies to fall asleep in their own beds, so I probably wasn’t starting out at the place you might be….(my children’s issues were/are more about night waking), but I do think this book is excellent and I do think it will help you.
