Augmentin or Rice Cereal?

I know sounds like a weird subject, but here is the story. Cooper didn’t seem to react well to Oatmeal cereal, fine bumps/rash on his torso, so I talked withour ped GI and he said rice cereal instead if we must do cereal, but anyway, so I started that on Thursday, well Friday Cooper got started on Augmentin for a “pimple” on his face that has been there for probably 6-8 weeks, and recently got inflammed again. Well last night was horrible, lots of gas, crying, trying to poop which he finally did, wasn’t any different consistentcy than usual. My question, is it the augementin or the rice cereal, or a combo of both? ugh, this is so difficult. I am trying to get him a variety of foods but am sick of just fruits and veggies at this point. I’ve heard both antibiotics AND rice cereal can be hard on some babies tummys. Maybe stop with the cereal until he is off of the antibiotic and then re start the cereal when there is only 1 new thing going on?? Good luck! I hate the guessing game!!!!!

I’m sorry to hear about Cooper. Augmentin can be horrible on the stomach for some people. I bet anything that’s what it is. Make sure you give it to him with food, but it still might cause problems. It is one of the best antibiotics to get rid of persistent things, but it sure is harsh.

Landen had all of those symptoms on augmentin and then some. I have it in his chart that we just don’t want it prescribed to us. He’s currently on omnicef for his 2nd ear infection in his short little life.

I know it is hard to guess. I had the same thing happen to us when we had Landen start Miralax for constipation and carrots on the same day and then he got thrush. I was spinning my wheels trying to figure out what it was. I am thinking to this day it was the thrush although I still haven’t retrialed any baby food or the miralax since. *still traumatized*

I hope Cooper is feeling better soon. The guessing game SUCKS!

may I ask why you want more variety than fruits & veggies if he’s *just* 6 months old? if he can handle squash, there are a ton of varieties (acorn squash, yellow squash, spaghetti squash, butternut squash, etc etc…), LOL!!

you do have a point, problem is I am lazy and I buy his baby food, he is on stage 1 and we will go to stage 2 after this stupid antibiotic and I talked to his ped today and she said to not introduce anything new until after we are done with the augmentin, which is next Sunday (he will be 7months then), and he hasn’t had a single finger food, b/c I am at a loss as to what to give him. I guess I will just have to do the veggies that we know he can tolerate and cook them really well which isn’t my nature, I like my veggies crunchy. But anyway, I am having a bad day, he didn’t sleep well last night and hasn’t napped well today either so my brain is scrambled eggs.

I guess I would say to just bake some sweet potatoes and squash in the oven for a really long time…(I like my veggies crunchy, too)…

you can pour a bit of blackstrap molasses on them for flavor (it is full of iron & calcium, who knew, lol!)…or just make them plain…

bananas & avocado are great finger foods (no cooking)

and you could try puffs I think?? (not sure of the ingredients…so maybe not)- check hte ingredients in the freeze dried gerber fruit, too- like the apple- these are good finger foods, too- they dissolve really easily in their mouths…
