Hi everyone,
I met a mom at one of my playgroups today whose son is on Axid. I know of two other moms with kids on the same medication. I haven’t heard much about Axid on this site. Does anyone have any opinions on it? It seems to be prescribed in this area more often than Zegerid. I’m just wondering if anyone has had any luck with it.Thanks
Yes, it’s an H2 blocker like Laura mentioned. Just like zantac, it MIGHT work well for them but chances are they might need a PPI for more relief. Let her know there ARE other options if it doesn’t seem to be working. When we started zantac in the beginning, I had NO CLUE there were any other medicines even available! Boy was I wrong!

Surprise, surprise…Axid is the drug our new pediatrician wants us to try first. Do we live in the dark ages or what? Where do you people live that the doctors are allowing you to get Zegerid?!?I’m so frustrated with the doctors in our area right now!Anyway, I guess I’m going to try the Axid since I don’t have anything else to try at this point. I printed off the Marci-Kids info for the new pediatrician, but she basically told me that no matter what it said in the info she would NOT prescribe Zegerid because it isn’t considered “standard care” and hasn’t been used enough in infants.I tried to explain everything about Zegerid to her, but she was adamant that she wouldn’t take a chance with a medication she wasn’t familiar enough with…so that went out the window
Hopefully Caden will resond to the Axid in some way so he can be more comfortable at night at least!Thanks everyone…the saga continues…Awww Emily,
I’m so sorry you seemed to hit a brick wall with your new ped. At least she’s not just willing to throw any med at Caden! That shows something good right? Anyway, I hope the Axid works for you guys. I really really really hope it works Our ped wasn’t really that jazzed about Zegerid either and said the same thing about it not really being used in infants(not up to date on the research I think
)but luckily our G.I was prescribing it quite a bit so we caught a break there. Where are you guys again? I hope Caden had a good sleep last night!!!!Thanks Claire. Yes, I agree with you, it is good that she won’t just give out medications without caution. I was just hopeful that she would be a little more open-minded than our previous pediatrician. At least this new one is younger and more up to date in other ways. They have a very modern office with friendly staff, and the doctor was good about listening to me, which our old ped wasn’t…so, all in all she is an improvement.
She also mentioned to me that Caden’s sleep issues could very well be habit too, which I’m fully aware of since I sleep with and nurse him whenever during the night. However, I tend to think that the ear infection caused an upset that is taking some time to get over, so hopefully in the next week or so, we’ll see some improvement whether the Axid works or not…this may be wishful thinking, but he is already sleeping better again. I don’t know if it’s related to the Axid or just coincidence, but either way, it’s good.Take care
