Inactiveok-so i cannot afford anything like striderite or anything. i took the advice from some of you ladies on this board and went to payless. payless carries the teeny toes and smart fit which are both made by stride rite.
here is the problem…
when ever i find his size, it is in a WIDE WIDTH! and they are ONLY made in wide widths! why?! should i just get him the wide ones, or is that not really a good idea…shouldnt young babies have properly fitting shoes when first starting to walk? grrr….he is currently wearing a width width sandal from payless for this summer, but i would rather him have a PROPERLY fitting shoe?!
can anyone recommend other brands….maybe from walmart or target…i want him to have good quality shoes with good arch support but cannot fork out a ton of money.
i wont do robeez or anything like that, he plays outside all day and i dont feel that its safe for him.
thanks!

InactiveI’ve noticed that too. Alot of times I find a shoe at payless that I like for Myles and they only have wide sizes. I just don’t know why.
They seem to be cutting back on their styles and sizes lately.Have you tried their online store?

Here are a couple that are not wide width. There’s another one in the casual section.

InactiveYou know some of those Target brand shoes aren’t that bad. Another thing that I always tell adults is to change shoes often. Don’t let him keep the same pair forever or until they are completely worn out. Then you should be okay with the cheaper pairs. Also maybe having a couple of pairs so that you could switch every other day.
Unfortunately, my son had XX-wide foot, so my only choice is Stride Rite. Every trip to Jr. Shoe World is DEPRESSING!
It is definately important to have a good fitting shoe, so I probably wouldn’t go with the wide if he doesn’t have wide feet!

InactiveActually Walmart has a couple of good ones- barefoot walking, fisher price and dr. sholls all make some good ones. Good luck.

OK, this is how I found these. Their website is stupid! Go to the homepage, click on boys, then scroll down to brands and click on Smartfit. None of these shoes showed up when I cliked on toddler boys.

InactiveI hope this doesn’t sound stupid, but how do you buy shoes over the internet? I find the fit changes from shoe to shoe- some styles say they’re a certain size but are actually quite a bit smaller, I’ve found. It’s hard when you can’t try them on.

Lori, right now i have no choice. i went over to walmart and did not find anything like what you mentioned above. i have been to three different paylesses and am only finding the wide widths, the stores dont carry any of the stuff that i see online. i went to target and did not find anything that i thought was good quality and that had good arch support. basically, the links that Christine found are my only options.
i can always send them back if they dont fit correctly.May 28, 2007 at 10:43 am #34683Anonymous
InactiveNatalia, one great thing about payless here is that they’ll check all their stores in the local area for the size that you’re looking for. And if they don’t have it at the location where you are, they give you a printed list of all the stores nearby that do have the size, and a 15 percent off coupon to use.
Sorry about the Walmart search… I guess our stores are different in Canada! We have TONS of kids shoes at Walmart, ranging from the really cheap kids shoes, to a special section of ones spefically for younger kids who are new at walking.
Good luck whatever you decide.

InactiveLori, our stores do that too…the problem is the paylesses i went to only carry width widths in 4’s or 5’s.. they didnt even carry the styles that CHristine posted. they said i had to look online for 4s or 5’s that are not wides

InactiveI tried buying shoes for Brielle and could never find them in her size either. But then when I mentioned something to her pediatrician about wearing shoes, he said do not put them in shoes until they are two years old. It prevents the arch in their foot from forming properly

So I wasnt sure what to do and then last week I got one of my baby books in the mail and it had an article stating the same thing. Any oppinions?

InactiveFrom what I’ve read, when they’re small and not walking, or just learning to walk and mostly walk around inside, it’s best to keep them barefoot or in a soft-soled shoe like a Robeez/Bobux type. But once they’re walking and they’re walking outdoors, there’s really no choice b/c they need foot protection just like we do. That’s why you want a well-made shoe that fits properly.
