InactiveIt’s Zantac…Can I mix it with a little bit of formula? Just enough to get the taste out? Like a nipple full of formula?
Pharmacy didn’t have any flavor additives to mix it with.
Thanks.

Inactivedee- So is it just the PPIs and not the H2 blockers that need the 30 min rule(empty stomach)?
I can’t be 100% that she would finish her whole bottle, which is why I just want to add a teaspoon or so of it to the meds. I tried everything, including blowing in her face…mommy gets the “death stare” when doing this lol.

Keymasterwe used to mix the zantac w/ mylanta- apparently it’s hard to find nowadays- look for the adult kind, as there isn’t a children’s one- look for the one kind that does NOT contain aluminum- many have found more success w/ the store brand equivalents, like cvs brand, etc
you cannot give PPI w/ mylantazantac can be given w/ foodPPIs CAN be given w/ food, too, but ONLY if they’re compounded (this means from the pharmacy, which unfortunately does NOT do it correctly AND this means PPI w/ caracream/bufferbabies & it means zegerid)January 17, 2011 at 11:02 am #67627Anonymous
InactiveThanks Laura! I read the older posts for info on Zantac, but it doesn’t say specifically that it can be given with food, either that or Im completely blind and didn’t see it.
Did you by the way get my email concerning the dosage that my doc prescribed? I decided to go with what we calculated for her weight per Marci Kids guidelines, and once her symptoms come back due to weight, I will try to up it to what the doc has it for.
My doc does max dosages as he knows about it being weight sensitive, and once it no longer works due to tolerance we are going to look into prevacid solutabs

KeymasterI did get your email- I haven’t gotten a chance to email you back- you can send me a PM and then it emails me that I have one & it gets me on the board
I am confused- marci kids dose for zantac? I don’t recall them having that; maybe it’s something new?January 17, 2011 at 1:11 pm #67633Anonymous
InactiveWell the dose for Zantac the forum uses here. We go by the weight of the baby to find the correct dose for Zantac.
Mine was 2.44ml split into two doses, however my doctor has her on 1/2 teaspoon twice a day, which seems a bit much compared to what we figured out here for her weight.
What we figured out
3.66×10=36.6
36.6 divided by 15mg= 2.44ml
split into 1ml AM 1.5ml PM
My doctor wants her on one whole teaspoon a day split twice so 2.5ml twice a day. Which is more than what we came up with. I just don’t want to be giving her to much. He also went by her weight in figuring out her dose.
Hope this isn’t confusing.

InactiveBTW- We have been going by what we figured out here for her dose, and not the doctors orders. I just feel better as of now to give her the amount we came up with as opposed to his dosing.

Keymastergotcha. well at least you know you can increase if you need to!
To be honest, it seems that most babies seem to need to ‘move on’ from zantac to a PPI…but if the zantac and diet change is helping, great
