Inactivehe is teething bad! he turns into a monster until i give him some hylands tablets.
i want to give benadryl tonight. what kind should i get? is there an infant kind? and what would the dose be for him-about 13 lbs??September 21, 2006 at 8:58 pm #14049Anonymous
InactiveI usually buy children’s benadryl. I don’t know if there is an infant formula or not.
Here’s where I found dosing information for Benadryl. Just be aware that there can be some side effects…..so use it sparingly. I read somewhere else that it can cause sleep disturbances if used too much (the last thing any of us need) and other things like constipation, and rebound congestion due to thickening of mucous.

Is Trace doing better since you put him back on Zegerid? I hope so.

Inactivechristine, its all so confusing!!!! ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh
i dont know i dont know. he has been screaming since the zegerid. but i am relating that to the teething since he shoves everything in his mouth and the teething tablets help a lot. he doesnt have any problems eathing so he doenst seem in pain from reflux.
so now i dont know if it was the actually prevacid bothering him, or the teething!!
ugh.September 22, 2006 at 9:54 am #14076Anonymous
InactiveI know what you mean. I really feel your frustration. If only they could tell you what’s bothering them.
Some babies are miserable teethers. My first born was an easy, happy, pleasant baby nearly all the time but she had no tolerance for discomfort and she was really miserable with teething. My second two had/have obvious discomfort when teething but they don’t react nearly as bad as my first did.
So, maybe it is just teething, and he’s one of those “bad teethers.” I’m glad to hear he is eating well. That’s a good sign that the Zegerid is working. I hope he cuts some of these teeth soon and gets some relief.
Have you tried the Hyland’s Gel? I’ve heard it works really well, though I haven’t tried it myself.

Inactivethanks Christine.
i always read on here not to use gel, because its bad for reflux? or is that only orajel?

Keymasterdefinitely the oragel, but I avoided the hylands for the verysame reason-
many have found success w/ the gels, though…

InactiveI didn’t know that about the Hyland’s gel.

Keymasterwhatever works, you know?
the reasoning about gels that I wa given is that it numbs their throats and for some reason that escapes me at the moment, this isn’t a great sensation for gerdlings…but again, whatever works

InactiveAbby’s GI said not to use the Hylands teething tablets b/c they have Lactose as an inactive ingredient and Abby has a MSPI. I don’t know if this would bother Trace or not.

Inactivelactose shouldnt bother an mspi baby. its the milk protein they cant tolerate.

InactiveThe lactose always bothered Dylan and he was MSPI. he screamed with the hyland’s. Benadryl was our savior for teething. I think it depends on the baby if they have trouble with the lactose or not….

InactiveI didn’t think you could give an infant Benadryl. How does it help teething?
September 22, 2006 at 9:42 pm #14109Anonymous
Inactiveteething creates histamines which create acid.
benadryl is an anti histamine.September 22, 2006 at 9:43 pm #14110Anonymous
InactiveAnother mom posted last week about a product (can’t remember name) like Hylands tablets but without the lactose. She found them at CVS. I couldn’t find them today when I was there. I also use a little bit of benedryl. I remember reading from a while back that it blocks the histines that are released from the tooth breaking through the skin. I think it works on the swelling as well. We have had success, but I think it is because I use a minimal amout, just 1/4 tsp.
Seems like the baby oregel irritates DD everytime I try to give it to her. The past couple days I have been doing the motrin/tylenol duo to keep her out of pain and less irritable and it is working. So hard to deal with mspi and teething on top of reflux! At least they won’t be teething forever!

InactiveRyannsmamma-
Were they teething tablets or gel? Let me know if you can find the post. I searched but couldn’t find it. I will check out CVS, there is only one in our county b/c they all changed to Rite Aids. It’s about a 20min drive but I will make it to find them. Thanks. I will have to try the Benadryl. Do you just use the Children’s Benadryl? I don’t think they make an infants formula.
