Ben has another ear infection in his right ear, and lots of fluid in the left. Apart from the antibiotics, the PA suggested Benedryl to help dry up the fluid. She said for a few days (whatever that means).

I forgot to ask her if I should give it around the clock (every 4-6 hrs) or just a couple times a day. I HATE giving him the stuff as it really zonks him out, but I certainly don’t want to risk that other ear getting infected too.

Any ideas on how many times a day and for how many days I should give it to be sure that the fluid dries up?

Maybe you could just give it to him at night? That way he’d already be sleeping….

I used to give it at naptime and bedtime when I used it for my babies when they were sick. I don’t know how you could give it to them 4 times a day because they’d sleep all day!! I hope it helps. I always wondered if Benedryl could help with that fluid in the ears.

Oh Naomi, I’m so sorry he has another ear infection!

I thought Caden was getting one too and took him in only to find out his ears were clear but a different virus has taken hold and has caused him to have a sore throat (the doctor’s explanation anyway).

I’m still suspicious about his ears though, because he keeps reaching up and touching them. The ped said it could develop into an ear infection but as of right now they’re clear.

I hope Ben is feeling better soon!

Thanks everyone. I gave it to him twice today, before his naps, but he was a little zombie all day. I think I will probably do once during the day and right before bed and see if that works tomorrow.

i would do that too.. before bed and before one nap. also i wanted to know how much you give ben.. we are going on a 14 hr car ride..and i know this sounds bad but i NEED shane to sleep.. and was wondering how much to give him.. he is 21 lbs. thanks! and i hope the fluid drains up.
