Bethanecol – pedi gi

Saw the pedi GI. He is nice and I will write abput him in the appropriate spot. He took Sophie off the Prevacid saying it might cause her fussiness and upped her Zantac. Not sure I agree with this, but we can try it.

He also gave her bethanecol for the DGE. I am scared of this medication but he assured me it was ok.

I am at a loss. The past two weeks since changing her diet, etc., she poops better so she eats and seems better. I guess if this new stuff doesn’t work, we go back to what is working right now. So confusing to deal with!

Thanks! I am a bit pissed he took her off Prevacid because it seems to help, and the Zantac has done nothing for her.

then keep w/ the prevacid, too, making sure to space it 4 hrs from the zantac…

I promised my husband we’d try the new way for a few days. He upped the Zantac to what you calculated before, so maybe it will work. I’ll definitely keep you posted. If it doesn’t seem to work, I’m going back to the Prevacid!

when you go back to the prevacid, keep w/ the zantac, too. the prevacid can take up to two weeks to ‘show’ it’s effectiveness

Thanks! I called my friend who had horrible bethanecol experiences, and she suggested what her different pedi GI suggested- wean slowly off Prevacid and up the Zantac to see if her pain is ok. If it is, wean off Prevacid and add Bethanecol. That way we’ll know what works. I feel better about this plan.

So, I never gave her the bethanecol because the upped Zamtac/reduced Prevacid has helped. We see pedi GI next week, and I only implemented one of his directives…upping the Zantac. I never took her off the Prevacid and I never gave her the bethanecol. Wonder what the appt is going to be like.

The good news is she is gaining weight and spitting up less and seems more comfortable overall.
