Hi everyone,
I’m just wondering if any of you have had this experience with your baby. Myles was born with several birth marks. One was a small, red circle with a little white line in the middle. Once in a while the little white part would get swollen; usually when he was mad and screaming, or when he was straining to poop.
Well, Saturday morning he woke up and it was big blister or boil (I’m not sure what the difference is between the two). I took him to a walk-in clinic and the doc there said it was an immune response….that when a baby’s immune system matures it sometimes attacks a birthmark as if it was something foreign.
Well, now it’s flat, but bright red, and bleeding a little. I took him back to the doctor yesterday (found out he had a double ear infection that was just starting….poor kid). Of course, our regular doctor is too busy to see us so we saw the Nurse Practicioner. She thinks he banged it on something and that’s what caused it to become a boil.
I just don’t see that as a plausible explanation because he was in his crib all night and he doesn’t even stand up yet. I guess what the first doctor said makes more sense, but I’ve never heard of such a thing. Have any of you?
Thanks.

I am sorry… don’t know much about this. I have a birth mark and it does sometimes swell, but it is white (and both my dad and granpa have it) so i know it must be something inherited. I have no idea how it was when i was a baby…. hope it is nothing and goes back to normal soon!
June 22, 2006 at 3:57 pm #10312hellbenntKeymasterI’d try & get to a pediatric dermatologist, just to see what is going on…that’s just me…
June 22, 2006 at 5:09 pm #10322AnonymousInactiveAidan has “stork bite” on the back of his head/neck..they’re red and get REALLY red when he screams…I had a friend with a raised red birthmark..I think it was called a hemangioma? (sp?) I agree with Laura, go see the ped dermatologist, it might be something he needs to have removed (better to do it now than later, my older one has a HUGE mole on his head next to his ear that I only noticed when I cut his hair short at the age of 3..it’ll have to come off, and now that he’s 6 he is totally freaked out about it!!!!!)
June 22, 2006 at 9:49 pm #10347AnonymousInactiveThanks everyone. It looks a little better tonight. Dh thinks it’s healing…I’m more concerned than he is. I doubt we even have a pediatriac dermatologist in the whole state of ND, but I will look into it if it doesn’t improve in the next few days.
June 23, 2006 at 7:45 am #10365AnonymousInactiveactually I don’t think you evn have to see a ped dermatologist, the adult one I saw a while ago told me that I could bring Austin in for a assesment whenever I wanted. I think Derm’s see all ages (after all doesn’t acne strike when they’re kids).
