InactiveJulia had her two month well child appointment last night, and her pediatrician checked her stool for blood. Apparently, there is a small amount in there
. I have already eliminated dairy, soy, beef, seafood, nuts, citrus, gassy and spicy foods, and eggs. I am really starting to think she’d be better off on Neocate, but it really doesn’t matter as she won’t take a bottle. The pediatrician said I could try eliminating other things such as wheat, but she wasn’t all that optimistic that we will figure out what else is bothering her and said it could be that her system is just so immature that she is having trouble breaking down the breastmilk proteins themselves. Anyone have any suggestions as to what I should try next? I feel like I am barely eating anything as it is…Thanks!

Keymasterandrea,
I’d do the complete elimination diet to see if you can pin point what, if anything there is in your diet that’s affecting her- I’d do the diet for 2 weeks and then have her stool tested. then, if it comes back with blood, I’d eliminate wheat and rice and add back in other stuff like veggies and fruits, etc, just to get you through another 2 weeks. then I’d test again…
in the meantime:
1) There’s an article at Dr Jack Newman’s site about the use of Pancrease (digestive enzymes) to resolve blood in the stools.
info here

3) read through links regarding the elimination diet- links are from ‘Groupie Intro’ and also from the stickied post in MSPI forum (if it’s not there, there’s the same post linked to from the Groupie Intro- it’s the ‘main’ MSPI info page)

InactiveIt might help her to take probiotics & digestive enzymes until you can figure out what’s bothering her.
Good luck!

InactiveI have a friend who’s little boy couldn’t tolerate breast milk protiens and ended up on (and I’m not 100% sure on this) neocate. Just do what you want to do, what you know will make you AND Julia happy(well hopefully you’ll get to where she’s happier!!!), this may be sticking to the elimination diet or trying to get her to take formula, I think it’s just kind of trial and error, but I truly think that a happy mommy makes a world of difference!!!!!
