InactiveThey leak terribly, don’t they?
I think the travel cap is the little plastic round thing that you put on top of the bottle before you put the nipple and ring on. I never use them because I think they are a nuisance.October 22, 2006 at 9:04 pm #16404Anonymous
InactiveI have the wide neck DB bottles, they came with travel disks. Just a flat disk that goes inside the nipple ring. You can shake til your hearts content, nothing ever comes out – for me anyhow LOL. Just add your mix, water put the bottle completely together, add the disk, shake, then take the disk out, and feed. We used to use Oatmeal to thicken, Y-cut nipples – nothing clogged, nothing leaked – we used the disk to shake and mix the oatmeal. We still use the disk when we travel.
Love these bottles, we have used them for 9 months. Good Luck!

InactiveThanks Zoey. Bizzarre! We also use the wide neck bottles and I’ve never seen the travel disks anywhere. I wish we had them though because it would certainly make mixing a bottle easier. Do you put the valve in before or after you’ve shaken the whole thing up?

InactiveWith the oatmeal – which doesn’t require a whole lotta shaking, I put the whole bottle together; valve and tube thingy. But back when I used powdered formula, which requires quite a bit of shaking (I always warmed the water first then added the powder, seemed to mix better) I left the tube thingy out because I found the tube thingy would disconnect if I were to shake too much – but in order to not leak – you must put the valve thingy in.
There are two different items – travel CAPS, I have no experience with these lil thingys. And travel DISKS – these came in the 3 pack of bottles – these are what we use. They seem like nothing when you open the package, I would bet some people toss them out thinking they are part of the packing material LOL.
Yes omgoodness they really leak without the travel disk in! You poor thing!!
Wow it all sounds labor-intenstive and hard when I read it all back LOL. It really isn’t though, they are easy-peasy and I really love these bottles – they have made a huge difference for Owen.
LOL I hope this helps!
Love,

InactiveI’ve had a few “toss the bottle in the bag without the travel cap”, I tossed them because I had never used bottles before and I thought they were part of the packaging!!!

InactiveHmmm, I guess I’m finding this thread a bit late but I love the Dr. Brown bottles. It was the only thing that really made a difference with my ds (we went through like 3 brands). That being said, we don’t shake formula. It never seemed “mixed” to me and it just seemed as though that somehow added the air that I was trying to remove. Plus I guess we did have leaking problems (with other bottles).
We’ve always made a batch of formula using warm to hot water to help it really mix. Now that we are putting cereal in Anika’s bottles I actually make it in a blender to get it all real smooth. Then when we are on the go I just take some cold formula with me and I either warm it in a microwave or I have a large plastic cup that I will ask for HOT tea water to soak the bottle in. That takes a little planning but if you get the really hot water then it only takes 5 – 10 minutes.

InactiveHi – Where do you get a formula mixer?? I wouldn’t mind something like that for mixing goat’s milk powder into my son’s breast milk. It tends to be clumpy sometimes.
